Lady Gaga is known for turning heads when it comes to making bold fashion statements. And she did just that when she walked the champagne-colored carpet at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday, (March 12).
The “Born This Way” singer, 36, wore an elegant gown that screamed glamorous in the front and risqué in the back. Her dress, which arrived fresh off the runway, was crafted by Versacé and featured a sheer bodice and full-length skirt, pulled together by a gilded belt. Other detailing of the front portion of the dress included long sleeves and a built-in corset.
For her look, Gaga kept her accessories to a minimum complimenting her gown with a diamond collar necklace, a matching ring, and a bracelet. She paired her outfit with dramatic makeup that included rosy blush, a bright red lip, and moody eyeshadow. But perhaps what stood out the most was the surprising rearview of the drop-waist dress, which exposed her intricate tattoos and backside covered by a zipper.
Gaga’s outfit was previously worn on the fashion runway by model Gigi Hadid during the Versacé FW23 runway show, which took place on March 9 in Los Angeles.
The champagne carpet look wasn’t the only head-turning moment that Gaga delivered throughout the night. She also took the stage during the ceremony to perform “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick. For her performance, Gaga opted to go with a striking contrast to her glamorous carpet ensemble. She dialed down her look, wearing a simple black T-shirt, torn jeans, and sneakers. She went make-up-free and wore her hair pulled back into a French braid.
Instead of focusing on her appearance, Gaga detailed how her song came to life, shared a message close to her heart, and, then, let her vocals shine as she sat on a stool to deliver a stripped-down take of the pop-rock ballad.
“I wrote this song with my friend Blood Pop…. in my studio basement. It’s deeply personal for me,” Gaga told the audience. “I think that we all need each other. We need a lot of love to walk through this life. We all need a hero sometimes — there are heroes all around us in unassuming places. But, you might find that you could be your own hero even if you feel broken inside.”
Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” earned a nomination for Best Original Song at the 2023 Oscars, which marks her third nod in the category overall. She went up against fellow contenders, “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, “Applause” from Tell It like a Woman, “This Is A Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once, and “Naatu Naatu” from RRR with “Naatu Naatu,” taking the top prize. And although Gaga didn’t win the trophy this year, she previously scored the Oscar in 2019 for “Shallow,” which was featured in her 2018 remake of A Star Is Born.
According to People, Gaga almost missed out on the 2023 Oscars night. She initially planned on skipping the event due to a scheduling conflict with the Joker sequel Folie à Deux.
The 95th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, aired live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, (March 12), at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
