Kutter Bradley delivered a heartfelt performance of a Jason Aldean hit on American Idol that highlighted both his work ethic and his deep appreciation for his parents. The 22-year-old fire protection inspector from Florence, Alabama started by explaining the story behind his blue-collar roots before taking going into his one-song performance in front of Idol judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan.
“I used to be a welder and a machinist, so I went to college for that. I’ve worked many jobs from carpentry, welding to construction, but music… Ever since I did music, something is just poking at me like I got to see how far I could take it,” Bradley shared with Idol producers.
Before performing, Bradley shared that the performance carried special meaning for him, explaining that the track’s message about hard work reminded him of his parents. With both of them watching proudly from the audience, he dedicated the performance to them.
“The reason I picked that song is because it’s a song about hard work, dedicating it to my parents right here because they showed me what hard work is and it’s rubbed off on me because I’m hard working for my dreams right now,” Bradley told the Idol judges.

Donning a pair of overalls with a white T-shirt beneath them, Kutter Bradley went on to showcase another side of his voice and stage presence with a cover of “Amarillo Sky” by Jason Aldean.
“He just takes the tractor another round/ An’ pulls the plow across the ground/ And sends up another prayer/ He says ‘Lord, I never complain, I never ask’ ‘Why?’/ Please don’t let my dreams run dry/ Underneath, underneath this Amarillo Sky,” Bradley sang, showcasing his voice in a way viewers hadn’t yet seen on Idol. Not only did he highlight his vocals, but he also displayed a newfound stage presence as he slung his guitar over his shoulder and made his way around the stage, singing directly to the audience and showing off his growing confidence as a performer.
Following Kutter Bradley’s impressive performance, Luke Bryan commented on his choice of song and outfit, as well as praise his vocal abilities.
“Great song choice for you. And I tell you, rocking overalls in Hawaii. I tell you what, that’s pretty amazing. You really impressed me with where you went vocally. I enjoyed it. Great job,” Bryan gushed.
Industry tastemaker Kelly Sutton, the first female announcer of the Grand Ole Opry, applauded his natural-born entertainer abilities. “Taking the guitar, playing it, slinging it around and then going out to the audience, I was like, ‘Okay, I see you. I see you,’” Sutton said with a smile to the other industry experts and influencers before Bryan overheard her and asked, “somebody crushing down there?”
“Yes!” Sutton replied with Bryan joking, “don’t worry, Carrie [Underwood]’s crushing too.” Underwood added, “No. I see where you’re coming from. And you are correct, ma’am.”
Ultimately, Kutter Bradley scored a spot in the Top 20 with his performance and will continue on in the competition.

Fans first met Bradley during his Idol audition, where he impressed the judges with a cover of “Here Without You” by 3 Doors Down. “I love your voice [and] I love your confidence. That little growl you have is signature to you,” Richie gushed of Bradley’s vocals at the time.
During Hollywood Week, Bradley also turned heads with a powerful performance of “Jack” by HARDY, a moment that helped secure his place among the season’s standout contestants. After his HARDY cover during Hollywood Week, Carrie Underwood complimented his strong vocals, commanding stage presence, and high energy. “I feel like you’ve got a solid voice. I feel like you’ve got a big range. You were like a lion, like pacing back and forth, like getting ready to bust out of the cage,” she said.

Now, over the next two weeks the Top 20 Idol hopefuls will perform for America’s votes at Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii, competing for a spot in the next round with guidance from superstar mentors Brad Paisley and KeKe Palmer.
