Koe Wetzel brought his headlining Damn Near Normal World Tour to Roadrunner in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday (Aug. 28), and it was an epic show!
Electrifying Stage Presence, Set List That Took Fans On A Journey
After a Robert Howell and Henk Moody skit flooded the stage background, the Texas-born country star took the stage with an electrifying presence that quickly set the tone for the night. “Boston, y’all want to f**king party?!” Wetzel shouted in the microphone before exploding into a rowdy rock-infused performance of “Twister.”
The 32-year-old singer/songwriter took fans on a journey through his entire career with his 19-song set that flawlessly blended fan-favorite tunes from his previous albums with tracks from his latest album, 9 Lives. Songs like “Feb. 28,” “Creeps,” and “Something To Talk About” had his loyal fans, known as Koe’s Konvicts, singing along, while “Ragweed,” “Good Die Young,” and “Forever” reminded everyone why Wetzel has become a staple in the country music genre and one of the most exciting artists within the genre today.
But it wasn’t just the old favorites that stood out during the show. Wetzel’s 9 Lives material brought a fresh energy to the show and allowed Wetzel to show a different side of himself. Tracks like “Damn Near Normal,” “High Road,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “9 Lives (Black Cat)” showcased Wetzel’s growth as an artist, both lyrically and musically, reflecting on his evolution as an artist who has come into their own as a confident performer and singer/songwriter.
Live Debut of Fan-Favorite Track, “Casamigos”
One of the highlights of the night was the live debut of “Casamigos,” an unreleased song that Wetzel had previously teased on social media. Prior to performing the track, he explained that the song was originally written for his new album, but it didn’t make the final cut. However, he plans to release the tune in “a couple of weeks.”
“It didn’t make the cut. We actually left a song off the record so we could put it out here in a couple of weeks. It was one of the first songs that we had written for the record and kind of going back on past relationships, it was somewhat of a hard song to write, but I’m glad I did. This was the first time we ever played it live, so I really hope to don’t f**k this up. This song is called ‘Casamigos,’ you know, like the man who conquered Mexico? Same f**king guy, man,” Wetzel said before going into an impressive performance of the soon-to-be hit song.
Upon hearing the opening notes to the song, the crowd erupted in excitement, as they’ve been longing for the tune ever since he shared a clip on social media earlier this year.
A True Koe Wetzel Experience
From the moment he stepped on stage, it was clear that Wetzel was there to deliver more than just a concert; he was offering fans a true Koe Wetzel experience.
Koe Wetzel allowed his authentic personality to shine through on stage throughout his energy-filled set. He kept the crowd engaged with every chance he had to do so with funny banter and quirky comments, storytelling and comical ad-libbed songs that got had the crowd laughing. Wetzel made the large venue feel intimate with his easygoing personality, as if he was performing for a group of close friends rather than a massive sold-out crowd. The hitmaker had the crowd in the palm of his hand for the entire 90-minute performance with his magnetic stage presence.
As the night went on, it was clear that Wetzel was not just performing for his fans; he was connecting with them. Wetzel’s ability to blend humor, emotion, and raw talent into his performance is what sets him apart from other artists. He doesn’t just sing; he tells a story, and he makes you feel like you’re a part of it.
