Joyner Lucas joined forces with Jelly Roll for his brand-new single, “Best For Me.” The genre-bending superstars have been teasing their highly-anticipated collaboration for some time now, and fans are thrilled that it’s finally available everywhere.

New Collaboration, “Best For Me”

Co-written by Joyner Lucas and Jelly Roll, “Best For Me” finds the GRAMMY-nominated artists exploring the complexities of love, addiction, and letting go. The collaboration sends a powerful message by shining light on the importance of standing by loved ones battling substance abuse and addiction, and lends a voice to those suffering in silence.

In the first verse, Joyner Lucas expresses his concern and love for someone battling addiction, mourning their changed behavior and the strain it puts on their relationship. He grapples with the painful reality of watching someone he cares about spiral into addiction, and the difficult decision to prioritize his own well-being if necessary.

The chorus, sung by Jelly Roll, questions the nature of love and the struggle of accepting when it’s time to move on.

In the second verse, Lucas responds to the first verse, acknowledging his own struggles with addiction and the internal conflict it causes. He confronts the stigma and judgment associated with addiction, expressing frustration at feeling blamed and misunderstood. Despite the plea for understanding, he also asserts his autonomy and the need to prioritize his own journey to recovery. The song delves into the emotional turmoil of addiction, love, and self-preservation, highlighting the complexity of these relationships and the internal battles faced by both parties.

With Jelly Roll’s vulnerable lyrics, “How can you love someone and learn to let them go?” and Joyner Lucas’s poignant verses, “I wanna just tell you I love you in case that you really don’t hear it as much,” the pair encourages struggling individuals to seek help, while also reminding those around them to offer love, support, and empathy.

“Best For Me” Music Video

In addition to releasing the song, the pair of hitmakers also dropped the music video for the track. Earlier today, the clip premiered on MTV’s Billboard in Times Square in New York City.

The self-directed music video portrays Joyner Lucas coming to terms with the loss of a close friend who had been struggling with a drug addiction. Jelly Roll also makes an appearance in the clip, delivering powerful vocals to emphasize the song’s heart-wrenching message.

The video closes with the call-to-action for individuals struggling with substance abuse to text “Best For Me” to 508-507-2209 and highlights Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the addiction crisis in the United States.

The collaboration is the perfect pairing for both Joyner Lucas and Jelly Roll, as the pair have been very outspoken on their struggles and have been strong advocates for mental health and wellness. Lucas has consistently addressed societal issues in his music, most notably, sparked a much-needed conversation about mental health with his last album, ADHD. Meanwhile, Jelly has openly shared his personal struggles with addiction through interviews and his storytelling song lyrics.
