Jason Aldean released his first-ever duet with his wife, Brittany Aldean, in January, a song about a heartbreak potentially re-opening called “Easier Gone.” During a new interview on Audacy’s Katie & Company, Aldean was asked about potentially performing the song live with his wife, something that seems like it will certainly happen at some point, according to the country star.

After Katie Neal pointed out that Brittany and the couple’s children, son Memphis and daughter Navy, often travel with Aldean on tour, she wondered if that meant Brittany might show up on stage during her husband’s live shows and perform “Easier Gone” with him. “You never know, Katie,” Aldean replied, later adding, “I think she will.”

The Georgia native explained that as his and Brittany’s kids are currently in school, he’s been on the road and she’s “been at home, getting them back and forth to school and all this stuff.”

He hinted that he and his wife will deliver the live debut of their buzzed-about duet later this year.

“Probably when the summer comes around and they start coming out a little bit more, we’ll probably dive into that a little bit as the album comes out and everything else,” he said, referencing his upcoming album, Songs About Us, which will release on April 24. Based on what his fans have been wanting, he correctly assumed that a live performance with his wife is “definitely” something “people are probably going to want to see.”

“And I definitely see that happening in the future,” he continued. “When? I don’t know, but this year at some point for sure.”

Aldean also shared the story behind how the duet came to life, explaining that he only wanted to musically collaborate with his wife if the song was a strong one. “Easier Gone,” written by Lady A’s Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood with Jimmy Robbins and Josh Kerr, turned out to be that song, with Aldean sharing that Kelley was the one who sent him the track.

“I just thought it was really cool,” he recalled. “And so I kind of listened to it for a while and I just talked to Brit. I said, ‘Hey, I got something that I think you would sound really good on. I don’t know if you like the song or whatever, but this could be something cool.’ And so I played it for her and she loved it. So it was one of those things.”

Brittany was an aspiring singer who competed on American Idol prior to meeting her husband, but she had “never really been in the studio,” according to Aldean.

“I think the first day was probably a little overwhelming where she had never done it, so she didn’t really know what to expect,” he said. “And so I think the first day was a little bit feeling it out. And then the second day she went in and kind of knew what to expect, a little more confidence and crushed it. So it’s been fun.”

The 48-year-old noted that “Easier Gone” likely surprised fans, as he figured they would expect him and Brittany’s first duet to be a “big, sappy love song.”

“It’s actually the opposite of that, which I love,” he noted. “I’m more of a heartache, heartbreak song kind of guy than I am a love song guy.”

“Easier Gone” appears on Jason Aldean’s forthcoming new album, Songs About Us, which will arrive on April 24 via Broken Bow Records/BBR Music Group. Produced by Michael Knox, Songs About Us will feature 20 tracks, including the collaboration with his wife, Brittany, as well as duets with Luke Bryan and “Dust On The Bottle” hitmaker David Lee Murphy. The project will also feature the previously released songs: “Her Favorite Color,” “What’s A Little Heartache,” “How Far Does A Goodbye Go,” “Help You Remember,” “Hard To Love” and “Lovin’ Me Too Long.”
