Miranda Lambert’s chart-topping single “Bluebird,” is a song that appeared on her latest album, Wildcard, and was co-written by Lambert alongside Natalie Hemby and Luke Dick. Hemby and Dick are also the same songwriters behind her latest single, “Settling Down.”

In a recent interview with Apple Music Country’s Country Faith Radio with Chrissy Metz, Hemby discussed how the song came to be with country singer and actress, Metz.

“Luke Dick wrote a poem and it was just talking about how you keep the bluebird in your heart, and he actually came up with that chorus, with most of it,” Hemby explained to Metz during the discussion. “He was like, ‘I don’t know if you guys like something like this.’ And then of course Miranda and I were like, ‘Um, yes, and thank you, and please.’ And you know what? Whenever I get around them, those two are from Oklahoma-Texas area, and they have the same quick wit about them.”

“Their lyrics are very colorful, which mine are too, but theirs are on a whole other level,” Hemby continued to say detailing the hit song. “And so, it’s really interesting to watch our roles, because Miranda is great. She’s a great songwriter, so she knows how to take a song and make it about a personal thing with her, but also make it sound like a story that she just conjured up. But all this to say, I’m more of a melody person in the room when I’m with those two than anything else. I came up with the “oh oh oh” in the beginning.”

Hemby has co-written with some of the most popular songwriters in Nashville as well as several superstars including Lambert and more recently Lady Gaga. The songwriter actually co-wrote Gaga’s “I’ll Never Love Again,” which appears in the Oscar-winning film soundtrack for A Star Is Born.

Lambert previously shared that she is super proud of the song and says it is unlike anything she’s ever written before.

“I love ‘Bluebird.’ It’s a song like I’ve never written before and I’m so proud to be a part of it,” the superstar previously shared in a press release about the song. “Since I wrote it, I’ve been seeing bluebirds everywhere. The bluebirds had always been there – I live on a farm – but I never saw them like I see them now. It reminds me to open my eyes to what’s around me. Now, seeing a bluebird sitting on a branch means so much more to me. I see a little piece of hope there, sitting with wings, and it’s a reminder. I think this is one of those songs where every person takes what they need to from it.”

“Bluebird” has went on to achieve massive amounts of success, from going on to become Lambert’s first No. 1 song on Country radio since her single “Automatic” that hit No. 1 in 2014. The song also won the CMA Award for Video of the Year and was nominated for Single and Song of the Year at the 54th Annual Country Music Association Awards.
