Gabby Barrett and Cade Foehner are expecting their first child.

The couple confirmed the news exclusively to PEOPLE that they are expecting a daughter.

“We are very excited,” Barrett tells PEOPLE. “The Lord has blessed us with a little one, and we’re really excited to finally be able to share the news with everybody and just have a big old family celebration about it.”

Barrett’s daughter is due in early 2021, the couple first found out about her pregnancy in May 2020.

“We were in Texas visiting Cade’s side of his family,” she says. “And it’s funny, because I did not think that I was. Around lunchtime, I remember taking the test and my eyes nearly crossed! I was like, ‘Wait, is that two lines?’ I came running out to Cade and was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, I think I am.’ That’s all that I said, and he knew what that meant. I started crying, and it was very sweet.”

The announcement came on Sunday (August 16) via Barrett’s Instagram with pregnancy photos alongside the caption “And then there were three..”

Foehner shared his excitement on Instagram as well captioning his photo “I have the most amazing Wife in the world. I can’t possibly come up with strong enough words to honor her as she has honored me in giving me a baby girl!”

“I get to have two Gabbys!” Foehner added. “Ones not enough.”

“One is enough,” Barrett jokes. “We were really excited whether it was a boy or a girl. I always wanted a girl growing up, as well as a boy, so to have a girl first is just really exciting. I hope she gets his hair — definitely not mine.”

Being pregnant during a pandemic presents the challenge of not being able to bring your significant other to Doctors appointments.

“I have to go to some appointments, unfortunately, without my husband, which is really sad,” she says. “But I mean, if that’s what keeps the baby safe, then that’s what we’re going to do. We’ve just been trying to find ways to really work with it, because that’s all we can do at this point.”

The former American Idol contestants found their love for each other during Season 16 of the show in 2018 and just a year later the couple married in front of about 100 of their closest family and friends in Garrison, Texas at Union Springs on Saturday (Oct. 5).
