A flash mob broke out after Koe Wetzel‘s sold-out Damn Near Normal tour date at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville on Sunday evening (Oct. 6).
Flash Mob Breaks Out After Koe Wetzel Concert in Nashville
As the crowd of over 7,500 fans began to filter out of the open-air venue on 1st Avenue, an unexpected flash mob unfolded. A speaker placed on the sidewalk started playing Wetzel’s newest release, “Casamigos,” and two women suddenly appeared, dancing to the track.
The song continued, and the flash mob quickly evolved as other fans quickly joined in and danced along in perfect sync. More fans gathered, and what began as a two-person dance quickly transformed into a large, choreographed dance routine to the track on the plaza of the Ascend Amphitheater.
“Mary Jane took my license/ And Casamigos took my friend/ And you took your shit on down the road, the way you always do/ But of all the things I’ve lost, I’m alright losing you,” Wetzel sang on the chorus of the recorded track as fans danced along.
Nearly 100 fans joined in and danced to the fan-favorite tune in perfect sync until a Metro Nashville Police Officer and Live Nation Operations Manager stopped them and turned off the music. The group of fans then quickly dispersed and blended into the crowd exiting the venue.
“Casamigos” By Koe Wetzel
Co-written by Wetzel alongside Amy Allen, Sam Nelson Harris, Ben Burgess and Gabe Simon, “Casamigos” is a track that was originally expected to appear on Wetzel’s latest album, 9 Lives, but didn’t make the final cut. However, Wetzel knew he had to release the fan-favorite track. So just over two months after the album’s release, on September 13, 2024, he decided to release “Casamigos” as a standalone single, giving fans the song they’d been eagerly awaiting.
“It didn’t make the cut. We actually left a song off the record so we could put it out here in a couple of weeks. It was one of the first songs that we had written for the record and kind of going back on past relationships, it was somewhat of a hard song to write, but I’m glad I did. This was the first time we ever played it live, so I really hope to don’t f**k this up. This song is called ‘Casamigos,’ you know, like the man who conquered Mexico? Same f**king guy, man,” Wetzel stated of the track during his Boston concert on the Damn Near Normal Tour, where he delivered the live debut of the tune.
Damn Near Normal World Tour
Koe Wetzel kicked off his headlining Damn Near Normal World Tour on July 27 in his home state of Texas. The 46-date stint, visiting arenas and amphitheaters across the globe this summer, will make stops in 34 U.S. cities with the stateside run culminating at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on October 13 before Wetzel heads overseas for 12 stops in the U.K., Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
The Damn Near Normal World Tour features support from Treaty Oak Revival, Kolby Cooper, Pecos & The Rooftops, Ben Burgess, Tanner Usrey, Dylan Wheeler, Kat Hasty and Kolton Moore on select dates.
The tour takes its namesake from his song, “Damn Near Normal,” which appears on his new album, 9 Lives. The trek comes in support of his latest album, 9 Lives, which debuted at No. 15 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart (No. 2 among new releases, behind only the Twisters soundtrack), marking his fourth Top 10 entry.
