Ella Langley recently teamed up with HARDY for “Never Met Anyone Like You,” a blazing track that initially starts out as what seems to be a love song before the pair pull a punch and absolutely skewer the song’s subject for bad behavior. During a show after the song’s release, Langley spoke to fans about how she ended up working with HARDY, calling it a “dream.”

“Before I moved to Nashville, I was listening to this guy named HARDY a lot,” Langley began, explaining that she played four-hour cover gigs for years and one of the songs she often included was HARDY’s “Boots.” When she signed a publishing deal, she said that she told herself, “Don’t ask him to write.”

“I know that’s one of my dream writes, but don’t ask him,” she said. “I want him to come in wanting to do it. And it took six years to do that. Well, four years. Four years.”

HARDY took Langley on his Quit!! Tour last year, and Langley shared that the two became friends while on the road together, calling the tour “bada—.”

“After the tour, he gave me this guitar, he gave me this Gibson guitar, which is what I play, and it took another year for him to get me that guitar,” she said. “But we had a write together, and it wasn’t even supposed to happen. He had it on the books, and I didn’t. I said, ‘I’ll cancel everything. I got to. I’ll cancel everything.’”

Langley made it to the writing session with HARDY and Jordan Schmidt, and the three ended up writing “Never Met Anyone Like You.” “He said, ‘I want to write this song called ‘Never Met Anyone Like You,’ but I want it to mean one thing the whole entire song, and then at the very end I want it to mean the complete opposite,’” Langley recalled. “And I was like, ‘Sick, I can’t wait to do math today, that’s awesome.’ And it was one of the coolest writes ever, and I got to write it on that guitar he gave me from the tour. So this is a big moment for me today to get to put out a song with someone I’ve looked up to for so long.”

While co-hosting Country Countdown USA in September, HARDY seemed to tease “Never Met Anyone Like You” while discussing Langley. “I love what she’s doing. I’ve been writing with her, and she’s focused on her sound,” he said. “A song we wrote recently is really cool, it’s really different, she’s all about it, it’s got a cool vibe, and it fits her thing, I can’t wait to see how much she grows.”

Langley has since shared more new music, releasing her song “Choosin’ Texas” last month, though she previously said in an interview with Katie & Company that a new album won’t be released until 2026.

“I think there’s something to be said in taking your time in making the record and taking the time to put all those pieces into place where it can last a long time,” she explained, adding, “I’m really just trying to do what feels right to me, not really paying attention to what other artists have done.”
