Lainey Wilson and her fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges, are currently planning their upcoming wedding, having announced their engagement early this year. During an appearance on the Like A Farmer Podcast, Hodges discussed his famous fiancée, sharing the moment he knew Wilson was the woman he wanted to marry.

Host Pat Spinosa asked Hodges if when he met Wilson, he knew, “Hey, I’m gonna marry that girl.” The former NFL quarterback replied in the affirmative, sharing that he “really did” and that the moment happened soon after they met.

“I remember pulling into her driveway, and it was at night, and it was in February, so it was cold and there was like deer in the front yard,” he recalled of picking his soon-to-be-wife up for one of their early dates. “I was like, ‘Hell yeah,’ but when she opened the door, I remember being like, ‘I think this is it.’ So it was definitely, we had that moment.”

Hodges was discussing Wilson’s music and revealed that her song “Yesterday, All Day, Every Day,” which appears on the deluxe version of the singer’s latest album, Whirlwind, actually recounts the couple’s first date.

“She’s actually got a song about it. It’s called ‘Yesterday, All Day, Every Day,’ it kind of tells a story,” he shared. “Our first date, I came to Nashville, picked her up. We went to go eat dinner at this restaurant called Moby Dicky’s, it’s up in Hendersonville on the water, great hang. And then we went to this bar that shut down about a month after we went on a first date, and you’ll see why here in a second. You paid $5 a person, it was all you can drink beer, all you can drink wine and line dancing. That’s all it was.”

“So we went there on our first date, and it was me, her, and then I think 10 of her friends,” Hodges continued, joking that the couple and their friends continued to go to the bar from then on and may have contributed to its closing.

“We might’ve shut down that place ourselves. I don’t know,” he said. “I remember we went there from our first date until they shut down. We probably went there four or five times and every time it was $5 all you can drink beer, all you can drink wine, line dancing. If you’re getting free beer, you’re not just drinking five, you’re drinking about 15, 20. So that was our first date here in Nashville at Moby Dicky’s.”

Fast-forward several years, Devlin Hodges proposed to Lainey Wilson in February 2025 and when the “4X4XU” singer revealed the exciting news of her engagement on social media it sent fans into a frenzy.

“You know, when we first started dating [nearly 5 years ago]… the first two years we just kind of kept it on the DL. We finally, I guess, went public or whatever you want to call it… that sounds lame, but that’s what happened. We went public and then when I proposed to her, I guess it was a pretty big deal,” Hodges recalled.

Hodges and Wilson aren’t in a rush to plan their nuptials, though Wilson told PEOPLE in August that she was hoping to start the process of finding her dress and wants the final result to bring Hodges to tears.

“I’m excited to just step outside of the box and see what happens,” she said. “So hopefully when he sees me, he’ll be boohooing.” The Louisiana native also added a few compliments for her fiancé, who she called her “biggest cheerleader.”

“The sky is the limit, that’s how he acts about everything,” she explained. “He’s just the place that I get to call home, and I’m lucky to have him, and I think he’s pretty dang lucky to have me, too.”
