Darius Rucker recently turned one of Nashville’s biggest stages into a gathering place for country music, friendships, and fans to come together for a good cause.
On June 1, the multi-Grammy award-winning artist took to the Ryman Auditorium, marking his 17th annual benefit concert dubbed ‘Darius and Friends.’ As with previous years, the charitable event featured a star-studded lineup ranging from country veterans to chart-topping stars and rising newcomers. The sold-out concert included Jason Aldean, Lauren Alaina, Carter Faith, Randy Houser, and Mark Wills — all of whom were united in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s lifesaving mission.
“Every year it amazes me how quick my friends are to say ‘yes’ to joining us here at the Ryman – and then you guys sell out the show without even knowing who’s going to come sing with us,” Rucker said in a statement over the success of the yearly fundraiser, which included a celebrity golf tournament the following day.

Through it all, ‘Darius and Friends’ made a big difference in saving lives as it helped raise a remarkable $1.1 million for St. Jude. Furthermore, the celebrity golf tournament and a kickoff celebration headlined by Walker Hayes pushed the event’s all-time fundraising efforts past $6.2 million, helping support St. Jude’s mission of treating children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses while ensuring families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food.
“It’s incredible. I can’t thank everyone enough for the generosity and the eagerness to come out and support the wonderful work St. Jude is doing,” Rucker said.
During the benefit concert, the generosity was on full display. A live auction helped kick off the fundraising efforts, with a guitar signed by all of the night’s performers sparking a spirited bidding war before selling for $20,000. Throughout the night, fans continued opening their wallets for signed memorabilia and exclusive experiences.
Just as memorable as the fundraising was the music, which included a mix of fan favorites, covers, and surprise collaborations.
Faith got the crowd moving early in the evening with a country-inspired version of Britney Spears’ pop hit, “Oops!… I Did It Again,” while Wills earned a standing ovation for his energetic take on Alabama’s “Dixieland Delight.” Alaina later joined Rucker for a cover of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash’s beloved duet “Jackson.” They drew cheers from the audience while swapping verses of the country classic onstage.

Perhaps one of the biggest highlights came during Houser’s set. He delivered a powerful performance of “Like A Cowboy” after treating fans to a lively cover of Don Williams’ “Tulsa Time.” The emotional performance brought much of the crowd to its feet.
Rucker was among those who were clearly impressed.
“I know I can sing,” he joked after Houser left the stage. “But there’s only been four people I’ve ever been jealous of in my life: Luther Vandross, Steve Perry, Chris Stapleton, and Randy F*cking Houser.”

As the night progressed inside the Mother Church of Country Music, audience members sang along to a nostalgic medley of Tim McGraw’s “I Like It, I Love It,” TLC’s “Waterfalls,” and Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison.”
The evening concluded with Rucker leading the massive crowd into an epic sing-along of his Diamond-certified smash “Wagon Wheel.”
As previously noted, the benefit concert was just one part of the annual fundraising effort. The accompanying celebrity golf tournament featured a star-studded lineup of participants, including Aldean, Kane Brown, Vince Gill, Priscilla Block, Wyatt Flores, Drake Milligan, Warren Zeiders, and Houser.
