Cody Johnson has had a successful country music career thus far, scoring his first-ever No. 1 single with “‘Til You Can’t” from his double album, Human. But now the singer is setting his sights on another endeavor: acting.
Johnson revealed his desire to have an acting career during a recent interview with K99.1FM’s Nancy Wilson.
“So, what about acting?” Wilson asked him.
“I’d like to. Taylor Sheridan offered me a part in Yellowstone last year,” Johnson said.
@k991fm Did you know @Cody Johnson could have been on @@1883 Official?! He tells Nancy Wilson why it didn’t work out and if more acting is in his future in our exclusive interview at the link in our bio. #cojonation #codyjohnson #countryconcert22 #countryconcert
Johnson continued to say that he ultimately turned down the part due to scheduling conflicts with his shows.
“I didn’t have enough notice, and I already had shows booked and it was like, ‘I can’t cancel on the fans to go do it,’” he explained. “The logistics were gonna be way too difficult to figure out how to get me in and out.”
Johnson later corrected himself, clarifying that Sheridan had offered him a role on Yellowstone prequel, 1883.
“It wasn’t on Yellowstone, it was on 1883, which I really love,” he continued. “And I really wish I could’ve been part of [it]. I would like to act, and I think it’s going to come sooner [rather] than later. We’re just gonna plan it out because right now I can’t break away from what we’re doing, coming off of a number one, and hopefully another one, and really all the projects that we’re fixing to put out. I don’t want to cheat the fans,” he shared.
In another interview about his would-be role on 1883 with Audacy’s Rob Stone and Holly Hutton, Johnson said he told Sheridan to “give [him] a year” and he’d make it work.
“I was just like, ‘Dude, if you just give me a year. Let me know a year ahead and I could carve out time.’ I would love that, I won best actor in high school,” Johnson said during the interview.
Johnson isn’t the first country singer to delve into the world of acting.
Lainey Wilson shared that she’d be playing a musician named Abby on season five of the popular Paramount western drama.
Kane Brown also recently expressed a desire to act, revealing he auditioned for the new Grease movie, which has since been canceled.
Season five of Yellowstone is set to premiere on Nov. 13. Rumors about the new season, including Beth Dutton’s feud with Summer and Monica Dutton’s potential exit from the show have been swirling online.
