Carrie Underwood revealed why she is “very particular” about her Grand Ole Opry wardrobe during a recent episode of Friday Night Takeover with Audacy’s Rob Stone + Holly Hutton.
Underwood explained that she’s trying to “carry on the legacy” of previous female country artists because they always “dressed a certain caliber.”
“I’m very particular when it comes to my Opry wardrobe,” Underwood shared. “You see pictures on the wall, or looking up things about the Grand Ole Opry, and I feel like the women always dressed a certain caliber. It was very rhinestones, it was very shiny. It was a certain kind of dress. I love trying to carry that legacy on because they were just so beautiful to me,” she said.
In addition to thinking carefully about what she wears for her Opry performances, Underwood discussed how wardrobe played a role during her Las Vegas residency.
“There’s a lot of me in the wardrobe,” Underwood admitted when mentioning her Reflection Las Vegas residency. “Like personal pieces that I had in my closet that I brought. I collect vintage tees and I had big Guns N’ Roses t-shirts, and I had one that was Patty Loveless… I’ll buy them even when they’re huge and we’ll make rompers out of them. And those are really fun.”
The title of Underwood’s latest album even gives a nod to fashion, highlighting “denim & rhinestones.”
Underwood released her album of the same name on Jun. 10 and is preparing to hit the road in support of her latest project this fall beginning on Oct. 15 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
Underwood said she’s “thrilled” to be able to tour again.
“I’m thrilled to be hitting the road again with The Denim & Rhinestones Tour,” Underwood said back when she announced the tour. “I’m excited to bring the new music of Denim & Rhinestones to life on tour, as well as put new spins on familiar favorites. We’ve been working hard already preparing an amazing show, and I can’t wait to see everyone on the road!”
Fellow country singer Jimmie Allen will serve as support on The Denim & Rhinestones Tour.
Underwood released her latest album on purple vinyl on Jul. 8, according to her official website.
