Carrie Underwood is one of the biggest names in country music, but her favorite job is being a mom. Underwood and husband Mike Fisher share two sons, Isaiah, 8, and Jacob, 4, and despite their famous parents, they’re just like other kids with limited screen time.

During an appearance on the TODAY show last week, Carrie Underwood opened up about her parenting, calling deciding how much screen time her kids get “such a battle.”

“Even television, I notice if they kind of watch too much TV, they have an attitude shift and I’m like, ‘Why are you moody? What are we doing? Oh.’ And sometimes they’ve learned a lot from different television programs and movies and stuff like that. But it’s a struggle.”

When co-host Savannah Guthrie asked Underwood if she was keeping her children “off the phones,” Underwood agreed, “as long as possible.”

“There’s been a whole grassroots initiative within their school and a bunch of parents getting together and discussing how we can keep our kids kind of away from technology, especially social media and stuff like that as long as possible,” she shared.

The Oklahoma native also acquiesced to detailing a regular day in her life. “The kids go to school, my husband usually takes them, but the second they leave it’s like, gotta vacuum. I make their beds and check their rooms and make sure there’s not wet towels on the floor and stuff like that. Clean our room, go work out, garden.”

Keeps Her Home Life As Normal As Possible

Carrie Underwood’s Instagram followers know how much she loves to garden and harvest the vegetables she grows, and the singer shared that she’s “always cooking something or caning something or doing something like that.”

“I kind of live in the kitchen making bread or something, and then before you know it, they come home and then we make dinner,” she said. “We have so many meals together as a family.”

Underwood explained that eating together isn’t a rule, “it’s just what we do even better.”

“And I love it,” she shared. “I like to cook. I like to grow our food, and I feel like that’s what I enjoy doing and I want them to remember that.”

Keeps Her Kids’ As Grounded As Possible

While she tries to keep her kids’ lives as grounded as possible, it hasn’t escaped their notice that their mom is a little more well-known than most people’s parents.

“They have seen me on stage,” Underwood noted. “I feel like the first time, my oldest especially, started having ideas was when his friends would say something and it’s like, ‘Oh, that’s different. I didn’t know that that wasn’t normal.’ So they would come home and be like, ‘They said they saw you on TV’ and I’d be like, ‘I was on TV.’”

Recently Extended Las Vegas Residency REFLECTION

Both Isaiah and Jacob have attended their mom’s current Las Vegas residency, REFLECTION, which will return for more dates later this year and in 2024. Underwood recently announced 18 new dates for next year, which take her residency through August 2024.

The GRAMMY winner called the residency “super fun,” telling Guthrie and Hoda Kotb that “it’s really great to just look out on the audience.”

“People come to Vegas to have a good time,” she said. “People are from everywhere, all over the world. Wherever you’re from, it’s kind of easy to get to Vegas because so many people want to go. It’s just a blast and we enjoy the show.”

During her appearance on TODAY, Underwood also performed several tracks from the forthcoming deluxe edition of her latest album, Denim & Rhinestones, including “Take Me Out” and “Out Of That Truck” as well as some of her classic hits “Before He Cheats” and “Church Bells.”

Denim & Rhinestones (Deluxe Edition) will arrive on September 22 and features six new tracks, including her current single, “Out Of That Truck,” as well as “Take Me Out” and “Give Her That.” Physical and digital pre-orders are available HERE.
