Billy Ray Cyrus is mourning the loss of his mother, Ruth Ann “Ruthie” Casto.

According to a social media post from the chart-topping country star, Ruth Ann passed away on Friday, August 12.

“My mom went to heaven today. She belongs there. She earned it. She was the very definition of love,” he wrote alongside a photo of his late mother.

Fans offered condolences to the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer within the comments section of his post.

“I am so sorry to hear this my prayers my love and I will be with you I know this is a heartbreaking time Miss Ruthie will be missed she was the sweetest most loving person I’ve ever met God just got himself one more angel my heart goes out to you,” wrote one Twitter follower, while another shared, “Oh no, I am so very sad & sorry to hear this BR! Ruthie was such a sweet lady & friend. Caring thoughts & my deepest sympathy are with you and all the family at this sad time.”

Noah Cyrus also took to social media to remember her late grandmother.

“8-12-22 Forever and everafter I love you mamaw,” Noah wrote in her Instagram stories alongside a photo of her grandmother holding her as a baby.

According to AmericanStarBuzz.com, Ruth Ann was born on May 14, 1937, in Greenup, Kentucky.

She wed Ronald Ray Cyrus in August 1952. Billy Ray is the couple’s only child.

Ruth Ann and Ron reportedly separated in 1966 after 15 years of marriage and later re-married.

Ruth Ann Casto is survived by family member’s, including Billy Ray Cyrus, six grandchildren, Miley Cyrus, Braison Cyrus, Noah Cyrus, Christopher Cody, Brandi Cyrus, Trace Cyrus, and one great-grandchild, Bear Chance Cyrus.

The news comes weeks after Billy Ray Cyrus performed alongside Dierks Bentley at CMA Fest in Downtown Nashville.
