Post Malone caught Brad Paisley’s attention with a performance of one of Paisley’s biggest hits.
Earlier this week, Post Malone shared a clip of his cover of Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song,” which was filmed back in March 2021 as part of We’re Texas fundraiser, an event was organized by Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves McConaughey. The event was to raise funds for those affected by the winter storms that knocked out power to millions of homes, busted water pipes and left numerous people without clean water.
In the video, Post Malone is seen performing the Paisley tune alongside Dwight Yoakam’s band in a studio, which he dubbed one of the “top 10 best days of my life.”
After Paisley saw the clip on TikTok, he couldn’t help but share his reaction to the cover in the comments of the TikTok post.
“This is better than me,” Paisley commented on the clip. Paisley also hilariously updated his Instagram bio to read, “I write songs for Post Malone.”
Paisley previously gushed, “Always humbling when another artist does your song better than you.”
@postmalone Love you Matt, this was fun
“I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song)” is the third single from Paisley’s album, Part II, and became the third No. 1 hit of his career. The track was co-written by Paisley alongside Frank Rogers.
The comments section of Post Malone’s TikTok was flooded with comments begging the genre-bending artist to release a country album.
“Drop the country album PLEASE,” wrote one TikTok user, while another shared, “A country album from Post would solve all the world’s problems.”
During a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show while promoting his new album, Twelve Carat Toothache, Post Malone revealed that he may release a country project in the future.
“To be honest, there’s nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album [to put] on YouTube,” Post Malone told Stern. “I’m allowed to do that. I’m a human being.”
Stern then asked Post Malone why he hasn’t already released a country project, to which he replied “I split my time between a lot of different things because I am happily obligated to do concerts and show love to my fans … and then I’m happily obligated to write music and make beats by myself, and I’m happily obligated to, you know, take care of my family. So, it’s a lot of time, and it’s about finding that space to allot that time.”
“If I get another year to myself, maybe I’ll make a f–king country album,” the Texas native added.
Post Malone has also previously shared that he would love to sing a duet with “the king of country music” George Strait and country superstar Toby Keith.
“I put myself on country whenever I started playing guitar, I’m gonna get a rhinestone suit,” Malone previously said in several interviews. “I wanna work with George Strait, Toby Keith… there’s too many people.”
The “I Like You (A Happier Song)” singer will soon hit the road on his highly-anticipated Twelve Carat Tour with special guest Roddy Ricch, which will kick off in September and run through November.
