Ever since fans got word that Blake Shelton wrote his wedding vows as a song for his beautiful bride, Gwen Stefani, fans across the globe have been eagerly awaiting the release of the emotion-filled tune.
Now, on Friday (Nov. 5), fans no longer have to wait as Shelton has officially unleashed the touching love song that brought him to tears at the couple’s Oklahoma wedding in July.
“I’m really proud of #WeCanReachTheStars, and I’m really honored to be with Gwen Stefani,” Shelton captioned an Instagram post upon the song’s release. “That’s why we got married in the first place. That’s why we wear rings… because we want everyone to know. I’m thrilled to share this song with the world.”
Co-written by Shelton alongside his longtime friend Craig Wiseman, “We Can Reach The Stars” finds Shelton putting his love for Stefani on full display within the heartfelt lyrics.
“We always said we wished we’d met / Long before we finally did / But ever since that first kiss / Girl, it’s felt like we were kids and / Who are we to question / God and his greater plan / You and me are a blessing / And all we gotta do is say amen, amen,” Shelton sings in the new song.
“And I know we can reach the stars / That’s how far my love will go for you / I know we can reach the stars / You’ve already hung the moon,” Shelton sings in the track’s chorus.
The country superstar first announced the song’s release on Thursday (Nov. 4), just hours before the track’s official release.
“Gwen and I decided we were going to write our own vows for the wedding, but I decided to surprise her by writing a song instead…” Shelton shared on Instagram.
“A lot of people have asked about it since they found out that I did that,” Shelton previously told Seth Meyers during a virtual interview. “We’re excited about it. I want people to hear it. I mean, my God — I married Gwen Stefani. I want everybody to hear that! That’s the ultimate bragging rights.”
According to Shelton, he performed the song while gazing into his wife’s eyes and while he wasn’t concerned about singing the tune for the first-time ever, he was worried about breaking the seat he was given to sit on while he performed the song at their July 3 wedding.
“I did [sing it to her while looking into her eyes], I had rehearsed it so many times just in the bathroom, or when we weren’t together or whatever that I really had it down,” Shelton shared, before admitting, “The only thing that I was concerned about was breaking the barstool that they had for me to sit on. That was literally something that was in my mind, like, oh wouldn’t that be great if I sat on this thing… but I didn’t, and I made it through.”
The emotional tune was first heard by the guests of Shelton and Stefani’s wedding, as the country hitmaker brought everyone, including himself and his wife, to tears with the debut of the song, according to the wedding’s officiant, Carson Daly.
“He sings her a song, while he’s crying, that he wrote specifically for her… [There was] not a dry eye in the house, and that was really a highlight [of the wedding],” Daly previously revealed.
Previously, during an interview with SiriusXM’s Storme Warren on The Highway, Shelton discussed the writing process behind the song he wrote for his wife, Stefani.
While the final product created quite a positive stir among country music fans, Shelton confessed that it was a challenging project to take on. “I started trying to write a song because that’s kind of the opposite of what she would have expected me to do. I’m to the point where I just don’t write that many songs anymore,” the star previously told Warren during the exclusive interview on SiriusXM.
“It’s just like pulling teeth for me and something she’s always on my case about. So, I started writing this song, and I can only get so far with it, cause I didn’t want it to just be something for that moment. I wanted it to be something that was bigger, and I saw I needed help. So, I called Craig Wiseman. I said, ‘Craig, you got to help me with this thing. Like, I’m not joking around here.’”
When the two got to work, Shelton was open and transparent about his primary goal. “I wanted something broad, and also specific to Gwen. So, that’s what I did,” he added.
Shelton, 45, and No Doubt singer, Stefani, 51, exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony in front of their closest family and friends on July 3. The elegant Carson Daly-officiated ceremony took place inside a chapel on Shelton’s ranch, built exclusively for the superstar couple to say their “I Do’s.”
