Ashley McBryde is giving fans another taste of her forthcoming new album with the release of her new song, “Cool Little Bars,” a tune co-written by Lainey Wilson.
The GRAMMY award-winning country star debuted the new song on Friday (Aug. 4). Co-written by Ashley McBryde alongside Trick Savage and Lainey Wilson, “Cool Little Bars” serves as a heartfelt tribute to the humble dives, holes in the wall, and cherished locals-only establishments that played a pivotal role in shaping the early days of her career.
“As y’all know, I have a huge appreciation for bars that have stood the test of time and have a lot of character,” McBryde shared via a press release. “I played them for many, many years, and I’m proud of the education I gained, and I’m proud to be able to give such bars credit for my entertainment style.”
She continued, “In a time when so many of our staple establishments are being torn down to make room for far less charming, sterile and predictable gathering spaces, I thought we’d better celebrate the ones we have left and the ones we’ve yet to warm a seat in. With the help of Trick Savage and Lainey Wilson, I think we said it pretty good. So, thank you for dart boards, sticky table tops, bathrooms with broken stall doors and bartenders that can mix a drink while whoopin’ an ass. We see you and we need you. God bless cool little bars.”
The song finds the Grand Ole Opry member going back to her roots, reminiscing about the places that hold special significance and played a huge role in her musical journey.
“And I pray time just forgets to turn places like this / Into drive-throughs and condos, Lord knows we need those / Little holes in the wall for lost souls and old stray dogs / God bless two for ones and broken hearts and cool little bars,” McBryde sings on the chorus.

New Album,The Devil I Know
Arriving on September 8 via Warner Music Nashville, The Devil I Know will feature 11 tracks, including the previously released tunes “Made For This,” “Learned To Lie,” “The Devil I Know,” and her top 25 and climbing single “Light On In The Kitchen.”
“When it was time to put together The Devil I Know, my band and I did what we always do: got together in the purple building in East Nashville, played through a bunch of songs and discussed where we wanted it to go,” explained McBryde. “We decided to take all the things that people tend to give us a hard time for and turn it up.”
She continued, “‘Y’all are too country.’ We leaned into that – more country it is. ‘Y’all are awfully rock leaning for a country artist.’ Is that so? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. ‘Last thing y’all need is another tender, finger pickin’ song.’ Oh? Tender makes you uneasy, cowboy? I hear you. Let’s see how much more tender we can be. We listened to all those opinions and said, ‘I hear you. I understand what you’re saying.’ But sadly, there’s no room on the record for your opinion. We’ll do what we want.”
