Ariana Grande is sending lots of love to her fans despite the recent criticism she has received about her body shape and weight.

The 29-year-old pop superstar was recently scrutinized for seemingly looking thinner in photos in comparison to those from previous images.

Addressed Fan’s “Concerns” In A Video Health Update On TikTok

Taking to TikTok on Tuesday (April 11), Grande addressed the body shaming as well as the “concerns” that have been raised about her physical appearance.

In her message, she wanted fans to know that turning to social media isn’t something she usually does when responding to criticism, but she felt it was a necessary step for her to speak up in hopes to change the way people treat each other.

“Hi everyone. I have made my coffee. I’m on my way to work soon, and I just wanted to come on,” Grande began. “I don’t do this often. I don’t like it. I’m not good at it, but I just wanted to address concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to.”

“I think we should be more gentle and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what,” she continued. “If you think you’re saying something good or well-intentioned. Whatever it is, healthy, unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, not sexy, I don’t – we should really work towards not doing that as much.”

The Body-Shaming Comments Came After Grande Shared A New Photo Of Herself

Comments on Grande’s appearance began pouring out online after the “Thank U, Next” singer posted images of herself on Instagram sporting a body-hugging suit. Other pictures that surfaced online that had fans raising concerns over Grande’s appearance featured her walking through London. And while some individuals fired off negative comments toward Grande’s body, others showed her love and support.

“There are ways to compliment someone or to ignore something that you see that you don’t like. I think we should help each other work towards being safer, keeping each other safer,” Grande said, giving her listeners better options for dealing with similar situations. “I also wanted to say that there are many different kinds of beautiful. There are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful.”

Opens Up In A Rare Confessional Video About The “Lowest Points Of My Life”

While Grande disagrees with the way people attacked her online, she did address the time period she experienced before taking the photos that people were questioning and admitted that she didn’t feel she was in the optimal phase of her health when fans did deem her to be at her best.

“I know, personally, for me, the body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body,” she added. “I was on a lot of antidepressants, and drinking on them, and eating poorly, and at the lowest points of my life when I looked the way you considered me healthy. But that, in fact, wasn’t my healthy.”

Grande also reminded folks that when it comes to photos, they’re only getting a shred of the actual picture of someone’s life, and they don’t know the entire story or what people are going through personally.

“I know I shouldn’t have to explain that, but I do feel like maybe having an openness and some sort of vulnerability here will be that something good might come from it, I don’t know,” Grande shared. “Healthy can look different… you never know what someone is going through. So even if you are coming from a loving place and caring place, that person probably is working on it or has a support system that they are working on it with. You never know. So be gentle with each other and with yourselves… I just wanted to extend some love your way and tell you that you’re beautiful no matter what phase you’re in.”

Concluded Video With Uplifting Message To Fans

Additionally, Grande closed her confessional-style message with, “Sending you guys a lot of love. I think you’re beautiful no matter what you’re going through, no matter what weight, no matter how you like to do your makeup these days, no matter what cosmetic procedures you’ve had or not or anything. I just think you’re beautiful, and I wanted to share some feelings. Have a very beautiful day, and I’m sending you a lot of love.”

Grande is currently working on her role as Glinda in Wicked: Part One — the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked.
