Husband and wife duo, The Dryes earned a two-chair turn on NBC’s The Voice with a cover of the iconic “Islands In The Stream,” originally recorded by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

The duo’s blind audition marked their national television debut and it was a memorable moment for Katelyn and Derek Dryes as their beautiful harmonies caught the attention of Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.

After they introduced themselves to the row of coaches, Stefani welcomed them to the show.

“Aw cute, Oh my God we’re husband and wife too,” she shared with a laugh.

Legend quickly interjected, “And now you’re going to break them up by forcing them to fight over you.”

Stefani went on to share her love of the 1983 hit.

“That song would be my dream if me and Blake could do that song together one day, so…” Stefani said before Shelton chimed in saying, “okay.”

While Camila Cabello didn’t turn her chair for The Dryes, she did take time to compliment their voices.

“I was really excited when I heard your voice come on too. I was like wow the duet vibe is really exciting and cool. I don’t know a lot about Country music, but I’m excited for your guys’ journey,” Cabello said.

Leave it to Shelton to make a joke. He evoked laughter after picking fun at the duo’s name.

“By the way is the name of your duo The Dryes?” Shelton asked.

“That’s way better than the moists or the wets. Katelyn let’s talk about his mustache that’s badass. I mean, I can speak from experience there’s no better way to duet then if if you’re doing it,” he joked.

Legend wasn’t feeling it.

“I think you guys gotta pick Gwen just for that joke,” he added.

Katelyn then asked Shelton what made him turn his chair. He replied, “I was in just on Derek’s voice before I even knew that you were a part of it because the arrangement of that song, the first half of it, didn’t sound exactly what Kenny [Rogers] and Dolly [Parton] did. Country music is all I’ve ever done, I mean you hear me talking right now, I can’t help it, it’s what comes out of my mouth. So, I’d be honored to be your Country coach. Let’s do it!”

“I don’t really know exactly what kind of music you’re thinking of doing, all country music?” Stefani asked the contestants.

While they didn’t specify what genre they’d like to pursue, Katelyn and Derek gave Stefani the greatest compliments.

“I think you’re amazing Gwen, I really do,” Katelyn said, before Derek added, “you’re the Dolly Parton of your genre” causing her to blush.

“That is so crazy, thank you so much! What I love about you guys is you have so much character. You look like a cartoon character couple, I really like it,” Stefani told the pair. “I like the fashion, the blue, and I’m all about the visual, so, I think it would be really fun to work with you guys especially because whatever genre you’re in, it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day we’re trying to figure out how are we going to connect you with America. I think that’s what I’m good at and yes, Blake knows Country music. I am an Okie now as well, so, I think I could be a good coach for you guys. I’ve collaborated with all kinds of musicians, it would be great and yes Blake’s great but why not consider?”

The Dryes then had to make a decision.

“Can I leave you with one last thing? From the blind date to the blinds,” Cabello joked.

“Let’s take that Dale Earnhart mustache to the finale,” Shelton shouted before they chose him as their coach.

The Dryes are originally from North Carolina but currently reside north of Nashville, Tennessee. The duo has previously released a handful of singles and an EP. They celebrated 10 years of marriage in 2021.

The Voice airs on NBC on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c.
