Shay Mooney, one-half of the country music duo, Dan + Shay is showcasing his incredible weight-loss journey.

In a new video posted to his Instagram feed, Mooney is nearly unrecognizable after dropping 54 pounds.

“It’s weird not recognizing yourself. I got to a place mentally and physically that I will never go again,” Mooney wrote in the caption of the video which includes before and after photos of his journey.

“It matters what we eat… matters who you spend your time with… It matters what you choose to spend your time on. I’m so thankful for the people in my life that helped me make a change. No one forced me into this. I wanted to change my life for me. I’ve never felt more alive. I’m not looking for mediocrity…let’s go find greatness,” he added.

Fellow country artists rallied around Mooney after he made the admission, taking to the comments section of his video to offer him their encouragement.

“Let’s gooooo buddy,” Chris Lane wrote, adding a 🔥 emoji.

“You look happy and incredible friend! We all growin up!!!,” Jake Owen said.

“So proud of, Shay!!! Your transformation physically is obviously incredible but watching your transformation mentally and the light and happiness that exudes from you now is truly the best part. I love you!,” Abby Smyers, wife of Mooney’s singing partner, Dan Smyers shared, including a ❤️ emoji in her comment.

“LOOK AT U GO,” Carly Pearce added.

Mooney previously revealed that he lost 50 pounds in five months, according to People. Mooney said via his Instagram story that eating clean, giving up alcohol, and walking seven miles a day all played a role in his weight-loss journey, the outlet reported.

“[It’s] been a little over 5 months I believe and I’m down almost 50lbs. For those asking: Eating clean/not drinking alcohol and walking 7 miles a day. And some weights. That’s it! I’ve completely changed my lifestyle and I’ve literally never felt better physically, mentally, and spiritually,” he admitted.

Mooney also cited his singing partner, Smyers as his motivation for adopting healthier habits.

When asked by TODAY Show co-host Craig Melvin what he was doing to stay fit during a recent appearance, Mooney pointed to Smyers and shared, “I’ve got to stand next to this guy all the time.”

“You know, I had this moment where I was just not feeling healthy. It wasn’t necessarily for my appearance, but it was to feel healthy,” Mooney told Melvin.

Fans noticed Mooney looking more slender in a photo he posted of himself with his son, Asher back in October, writing, “Life gets better everyday,” including a❤️ emoji in the caption.

Besides wanting to make the change for himself, Mooney said his kids helped influence his weight-loss journey.

“I’ve got two kids and a third on the way. I want to be healthy for them and make sure I’m around for a long time for them. So that was important,” the country singer explained in a conversation with EXTRA.

Weight-loss journey aside, Mooney just accepted the 2022 American Music Award for Favorite Country Duo or Group alongside his singing partner Smyers back in November.

Mooney and his wife, Hannah, are also gearing up to welcome their third son this winter.
