Reba McEntire is safe after being rescued from a historic building after a staircase began to collapse.

The country icon and her boyfriend Rex Linn had to be rescued by the Atoka Police and Fire departments on Tuesday (Sept. 14) in Oklahoma when a staircase inside an old historical building collapsed during her visit.

In a video shared by a Twitter user, you can see McEntire exiting a second story window of an old building via a ladder accompanied by a firefighter.

“Close call for Reba in Atoka, Oklahoma Tuesday (9/14/21). Sure glad she and boyfriend Rex Linn are ok!” the fan captioned the video on Twitter, which you can watch below. “While touring an old building, a staircase collapse. They were among seven people inside. Atoka’s finest came to the rescue. No one hurt, just some bumps and bruises.”

The staircase collapse happened in Atoka, Oklahoma, just a few miles from McEntire’s hometown of Chockie, Oklahoma. According to TMZ, McEntire was touring the second floor of a historic building when the stairs that led to the third floor collapsed.

McEntire was one of seven people who had to be rescued from the 100-year-old building on Tuesday by authorities when the building began to collapse.

According to Travis Mullins, Emergency Management Director, the building was being renovated and the aforementioned stairs were scheduled to be replaced. Following McEntire’s rescue, another set of stairs that led up to the third floor also collapsed, trapping others upstairs at the time.

On Wednesday (Sept. 15), McEntire released a statement via social media, letting fans know that she as well as everyone else is safe, thanks to the prompt response by authorities.

“While my team and I were in Atoka, OK yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed,” McEntire shared on social media.

McEntire continued, “Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments.”
