Luke Bryan has been keeping up a busy schedule during his break from American Idol and on Monday (July 31) the country music superstar just dropped a brand-new music video to coincide with his catchy summertime drinking anthem, “But I Got A Beer In My Hand.”

Directed by celebrity photographer Jim Wright, who shot the video in one take at Free Dreaming Farm in Springfield, Tenn., this clip finds Bryan performing his intoxicating hit in a middle-of-nowhere bar. But he gets there with the help of a good Samaritan who stops to pick him up as the opening sequence features him stuck on the side of a country road with a flat tire.

Throughout the visual, Bryan can be seen backed by his band and surrounded by revelers having a good time. Sporting a ball cap and a fitting plaid buttoned-down shirt, he sings the punching chorus before tossing his acoustic guitar to the side and joining in on the fun, from playing a round of poker to dancing on a platform to smoking a cigar to opening up a brewski.

But I got a beer in my hand, and I got it raised up high (high) / I ain’t got a give in my damn right, I can do this all night / Country done came to town, this town don’t stand a chance (chance) / I’ll holler at the ladies, dancin’ like crazy,” Bryan sings, hyping the room with his signature Georgian vocals. “New Luccheses, fresh up out the deer stand / Feelin’ this high (high), wasn’t part of my plan / Wasn’t even gonna try (try) / But I got a beer in my hand (yeah).”

Co-written by tunesmiths Chase McGill, Matt Dragstrem, and Geoff Warburton, and produced by Jeff Stevens and co-produced by Jody Stevens, “But I Got A Beer In My Hand” marks Bryan’s first release of 2023.

The song has also become one of Bryan’s fastest-rising singles of his career, catapulting into the Top 15 within 11 weeks of its launch. “But I Got A Beer In My Hand” follows the five-time Entertainer of the Year’s song, “Prayin’ in a Deer Stand,” and 30th career chart-topper “Country On,” both of which appear on his compilation album, Prayin’ in a Deer Stand.

Fans got to hear Bryan’s live television debut of “But I Got A Beer In My Hand” back in May during the grand finale of Season 21 of American Idol. For the television performance, which aired ahead of the crowning of 18-year-old Hawaii native Iam Tongi, Bryan pumped up the crowd as they awaited results and waved around glow sticks.

Returning To American Idol

Bryan will reclaim his seat on Idol later this year alongside fellow judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. His making a return for the seventh season of the program was announced last month in a Tweet by the show.

“Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will return as American Idol judges, along with host Ryan Seacrest for Season 7. Audition NOW!” A caption reads alongside a photo of the three celebrities standing alongside each other with longtime host Ryan Seacrest.

Fans can look for American Idol Season 22 to return in the spring of 2024. In the meantime, Bryan is currently on the road as part of his Country On tour, which runs through October. In the fall, he will also set out on his 14th annual Farm Tour 2020, which takes place from Sept. 14-23.
