Country superstars Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood brought their soaring duet, “If I Didn’t Love You” to life with a brand new music video.
Premiering on Wednesday evening, the clip features the superstars performing the powerful ballad at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center. The cinematic music video, which depicts the award-winning artists capturing the tension of a relationship gone wrong, was directed by Shaun Silva.
“Carrie was made for this song, but also for this video,” Aldean shared. “I’m glad that she was down to get together to make it…it’s something that turned out a little outside of what I’d normally do, which is always cool.”
Aldean released “If I Didn’t Love You” as the follow-up to his 25th No.1 single, “Blame It On You” and the lead single from his forthcoming 10th studio album.
“We were pretty close to finishing up this album, but this song came in and we knew we had to record it,” Aldean shared upon the release of the track. “I went ahead and put my vocals down while we asked Carrie in the meantime. Luckily she loved the song and it was kind of like a rocket from there. She did her thing like only Carrie can…and I don’t know how, but she made it sound even better than what we expected. It’s a really special song to start this album.”
“If I Didn’t Love You” finds Aldean and Underwood crooning over an ex, admitting that moving on has not been easy. The track opens with Aldean’s signature vocals. Underwood joins him on the chorus as they admit to experiencing heartache following a breakup.
“If I didn’t love you I’d be good by now/ I’d be better than barely getting by somehow/ Yeah it would be easy not miss you/ Wonder about who’s with you/ Turn the want you off/ Whenever I want to/ If I didn’t love you,” they sing on the chorus, backed by a steady drum beat and electric guitar.

The emotional track was co-written by Aldean’s bandmates Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy alongside John Morgan and Lydia Vaughan. The track was produced by the superstar’s longtime collaborator Michael Knox.
While Underwood and Aldean have never recorded music together in the past, both of the country hitmakers have had plenty of duet partners throughout their respective careers.
Aldean previously worked with Kelly Clarkson on their collaborative track “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” Miranda Lambert on “Drowns The Whiskey,” Kelsea Ballerini for “First Time Again,” Tyler Farr with “Damn Good Friends,” and Luke Bryan & Eric Church on “The Only Way I Know.”
Underwood has recorded with several artists, including Keith Urban (“The Fighter”), Brad Paisley (“Remind Me”), Vince Gill (“How Great Thou Art”), Randy Travis (“I Told You So”), Willie Nelson (“Always On My Mind”), Tony Bennett (“It Had To Be You”) and more.
