Chayce Beckham is “Doin’ It Right” and his performance during American Idol on Sunday, April 17, proved just that.
On Sunday, April 17, the reigning American Idol champion and Apple Valley native returned to the Idol stage for a performance of “Doin’ It Right,” the title track of his just-released debut EP of the same name.
Joined by a full band and surrounded by stunning visuals filling the stage’s background, Beckham performed the anthemic new tune while playing acoustic guitar.
“Doin’ It Right” is a track that finds Beckham living life in the fast lane while remembering to take in the simple things in life.
“Everywhere I’ve been I soaked it all and I’ve come to realize / If you don’t take in the back porch, fireflies, sunset / burning up a small town sky / if you don’t stop on ‘Neon Moon’ when you’re clicking on through that radio dial / if you don’t steal a kiss when you get those blue eyes giving you the green light / oh, you ain’t doin’ it right, you ain’t doin’ it right,” Beckham sings on the chorus in the clip, which can be heard above.
Ahead of his performance on Idol, Beckham opened up about returning to Idol.
“Going back there and getting to see everybody and hug them all and squeeze them, it’s one of the best things in the world. So I’m looking forward to going back,” Beckham told Pop Culture. “I literally love everybody on that show, everybody who’s involved.”
Beckham previously returned to Idol to mentor contestants during Hollywood Week.

Produced by Ross Copperman, Doin’ It Right arrived on Friday, April 15, and featured 6-tracks, including his latest digital single “Tell Me Twice.” Beckham co-wrote four out of the six tracks on the project.
“Since my season on American Idol, I’ve been busy in Nashville writing songs and touring,” Beckham shared in a press release. “I tested these songs in front of live audiences last year, and now I’m so excited to have them recorded and ready for you to listen to. I’m really proud of these songs, and I believe they not only tell my story, but they tell stories relatable to everyone going through everyday life.”
Beckham is currently on the road with Jimmie Allen, touring throughout the United States and will join Luke Combs later this year for a fall Canadian Tour.
“It’s really a special feeling to get to connect with crowds all across the country and hear some people sing words back to you and for me that just one of the most Nirvana feelings that you can ever get in life,” Beckham also told Pop Culture.
