Thomas Rhett’s daughter, Ada James Akins, is starting to realize that her dad doesn’t have a “typical” job.
During a recent interview with Audacy’s Katie Neal as part of her show, Katie & Company’s Superstar Power Hour, Rhett shared that his five-year-old daughter, Ada James Akins thinks his fame is “weird.”
“We were Christmas shopping up in downtown Franklin [Tennessee] and a few people asked to take a picture,” Rhett explained to Neal. “Ada James looked at me and she said, ‘Why do people like you?’ I love how blunt kids say stuff.”
“I was just like, ‘You know Daddy sings music and I think that those folks like Daddy’s music and they wanted a picture,’ and she was like, ‘That’s so weird,’” he continued.
Rhett also revealed that making sure his daughters get to school and their extracurricular activities is “kicking [his] butt.”
“It’s kicking my butt way harder than I ever felt my butt kicked when I was actually in school,” he admitted. “Now, it’s your fault if your kids are late, it’s your fault if their lunch isn’t packed correctly, it’s your fault if their homework isn’t finished. We’re just trying to keep up with that and extracurricular activities — gymnastics, dance, and all these things — it’s a blast though, I’m lovin’ it,” he added.

Despite all the chaos of schoolwork and activities, Rhett loves when his daughters join him out on the road.
“My kids love getting on the bus, they love getting in their bunks,” he told Neal. “They think it’s the coolest thing in the world… it’s pretty full circle behavior, it’s exactly what I used to love to do with my Dad [90’s country star Rhett Akins].”
Rhett shares four daughters, Willa Gray, 7, Ada James, 5, Lennon Love, 2 1/2, and Lillie Carolina, 1 with wife Lauren Akins.
In the beginning of the new year, Rhett and his family enjoyed a ski trip together, posting photos of them on the slopes via Instagram.
“In a year WG is gonna smoke us all down the mountain!,” Rhett wrote of his oldest daughter, Willa Gray whom he and wife Lauren adopted from Uganda in 2017.

Following their family ski, trip Rhett shared that “Angels (Don’t Always Have Wings),” a song he wrote in honor of wife Lauren would be his next single at country radio.
“What’s up everybody? Good Morning, I just wanted to hop on here and say that ‘Angels’ is going to be our next single to go to Country radio,” Rhett revealed in a social media video. God, I remember the day I wrote this song, I was like ‘There’s something special about it’ and ever since the record came out, it is kind of just raised its hand the entire time. It’s resonated with a bunch of y’all, so thank y’all for loving it. Start requesting it on your local radio station.”
“Until it goes to radio, y’all make sure you crank ‘Angels.’ Me and the band are kind of working on it right now for our tour and we can’t wait to hear y’all sing that song back to us. So thank y’all for the support on this song and man I’m so pumped. Hope y’all have a great day. Peace out!,” he added.
Amid sending his latest single to country radio, Rhett scored his 20th No. 1 hit with “Half Of Me,” a collaboration between him and fellow country artist, Riley Green.
