Thomas Rhett has been releasing music for over a decade, and he’s gotten plenty of advice from other artists while navigating his career. One of those artists was Luke Bryan, who has helped his fellow star with marriage advice, career advice and more.

Relied On Luke Bryan For Advice In The Past

“I talked to Luke Bryan a ton in my early career,” Rhett recently told KSON’s John & Tammy: San Diego’s Morning Show. “I still talk to Luke quite a bit.”

The father of four reflected on all that Bryan has been through in his life, including losing several family members and taking in his late sister’s children.

“Luke’s been through the ringer — he’s adopted several of his sibling’s kids and experienced a lot of trauma in his life and in his career and I feel like he is somebody that has come through the other side of it victorious,” Rhett said.

He continued, “I’ve talked to Luke about my voice, I’ve talked to Luke about my marriage, about how to raise kids. He’s always been somebody who is like, not your father, but an unbiased opinion — Luke has kinda been that guy for me.”

Rhett Now Pays It Forward And Offers Rising Stars Advice

Now that Rhett is a bona fide country star himself, he’s been sharing his own advice with the next generation of artists.

“I love it,” he said. “I’ve got a handful of buddies that are also singers that will reach out on a random occasion to talk about marriage or talk about kids or talk about career or all that kind of stuff. I thrive with it, because I had those people too.”

He continued, “To have those kids kind of look up to me as their advice-giver sometimes, it’s been really cool and it’s something I don’t take lightly.”

Home Team Tour

Thomas Rhett is currently on the road on his Home Team Tour ’23, which began in early May and is in the midst of visiting 40 cities. Set to wrap in Nashville on September 29 and 30, Rhett is supported on tour by Cole Swindell and Nate Smith.

Earned His 21st No. 1 Hit

He’s also recently earned his 21st No. 1 hit with “Angels,” which appears on his 2022 album Where We Started. Rhett penned the track with Julian Bunetta, Teddy Swims and Josh Thompson and was inspired by his wife, Lauren Akins.

“Anyone married to someone in the spotlight, it takes a very special human being,” Rhett told Billboard. “The amount of days I’ve been gone, the amount of times I’ve let work overtake my family life, the amount of times I’ve said yes to stuff that I probably should have said no to — and [she was] there with me the whole way.”

The 33-year-old added that he initially expected Swims to perform the song while it was being written, but ended up having second thoughts and eventually got his friend’s permission to record it.

After it was released on Rhett’s album, fans gravitated toward the song, which describes the paramour of its narrator as a real-life angel without the wings.

“It was really cool,” Rhett said, “to watch something so personal resonate on such a large scale with people from different walks of life.”

Bunetta pointed out that while some elements of the song are a bit of an exaggeration for Rhett — including lines describing a “mess of a man” and his “selfish heart” — it’s a testament to Rhett’s talent that the song comes across as believable and relatable.

“It’s not like every movie that Robert De Niro is in, he had to live,” he said. “The greatest artists have always been able to interpret the song the way it needs to be interpreted. Whether or not they lived that is sort of beside the point.”
