In 2018, Hailey Bieber became “One Less Lonely Girl,” when she tied the knot with pop sensation, Justin Bieber.
How Did Justin Bieber Meet His Wife Hailey?
The pair started out as distant friends when Hailey’s dad, actor Stephen Baldwin, and Justin’s mom, Pattie Mallette, introduced them while backstage at a 2009 Today Show appearance for the “Baby” singer. At the time, Hailey was 12 years old and Justin was 15 years old.
Two years later, their paths crossed again at the 2011 premiere of Justin’s Never Say Never documentary in New York City. Despite the fact that Justin was taking over the music industry with his iconic flowy haircut and heartthrob imagery, Hailey told Vogue that she never considered herself to be part of his fan club known as the “Beliebers.”
“I was never a superfan, of him or of anyone. It was never that crazed, screaming thing. I didn’t think about it in any kind of way except for the fact that he was cute. Everybody had a crush on him. But for the first few years we had a weird age gap,” she told the outlet.
She Complimented Him In A Tweet
That being said, she did reveal herself to be at least a bit of a fan when she complimented him through a Tweet in 2012.
“Can we just talk about your dark hair for a second…” Hailey wrote with the hashtag “#itlooksreallygood.”

The young model even showed her support for Justin and his previous girlfriend, Selena Gomez, who he had an on and off relationship with between 2010 and 2018.
In between one of his off periods with Gomez, Justin and Hailey were seen attending a service at The New York outpost of the Australian megachurch along with their friend Kendall Jenner. This reunion sparked a new start for their friendship which quickly blossomed into them claiming to be “best friends”
“One day Justin walked into Hillsong and was like, ‘Hey, you got older.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’” Hailey explained to Vogue. “Over time he became my best guy friend. I was running around with him as his homie, but we weren’t hanging out [romantically].”
Became “Good Friends”
While speculations of their relationship being more romantic began to circulate, they continued to deny that they were anything more than just “good friends.”
Justin went as far as making an Instagram post with the caption, “People are crazy. I’m super single and this is my good friend u would know otherwise.”
However, after spending New Year’s Eve together for two years in a row, Justin finally confirmed his feelings for Hailey during an interview with GQ. While discussing their relationship, he expressed some hesitation and fear of adding too much to his already full plate.
“I know that in the past I’ve hurt people and said things that I didn’t mean to make them happy in the moment. So now I’m just more so looking at the future, making sure I’m not damaging them,” he said. “What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged. It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard … I just don’t want to hurt her.”
Hailey then shared her opinion on the idea of starting a relationship with the “Boyfriend” singer. She confessed to E! News that the duo was “not an exclusive couple.”
“He’s about to go on tour,” she continued. “Relationships at this age are already complicated, but I don’t really like to talk about it because it’s between me and him.”
Broke Up In 2016
It appeared that any sign of a romantic relationship between the pair came to a halt when they went their separate ways in 2016 and Justin began dating musical icon, Lionel Richie’s daughter, Sofia Richie for a few weeks.
“Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through,” Hailey later told Vogue of their split. “‘Fizzled’ would not be the right word — it was more like a very dramatic excommunication,” she explained. “There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out.”
Following his brief stint with Richie, Justin rekindled things with Gomez from 2017 to 2018 while Hailey made an appearance with Shawn Mendes at the Met Gala.
Rekindled Their Love In 2018
Then, in 2018, any awkwardness that may have arisen between Justin and Hailey was eliminated when they reconnected at the place that initially launched their friendship – church. They both attended a church conference in Miami, which was followed a nightclub appearance.
“The common denominator, I promise you, is always church,” Hailey told Vogue the following year. “By then we were past the drama. I just gave him a hug. By the end of the conference, he was like, ‘We’re not going to be friends.’ I was like, ‘We’re not?’”
Justin Bieber Proposed To Hailey In The Bahamas
The faith-filled trip seemed to do well for the pair as they continued to spend time together and were even spotted showcasing some PDA. Then, that summer, Justin took the world by surprise when he popped the question to the model during a stunning vacation in the Bahamas.
Justin took to Instagram to announce the news with a heartfelt message to his bride-to-be that began with, “Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindly.”
He continued, “I promise to lead our family with honor and integrity letting Jesus through his Holy Spirit guide us in everything we do and every decision we make. My heart is COMPLETELY and FULLY YOURS and I will ALWAYS put you first! You are the love of my life Hailey Baldwin and I wouldn’t want to spend it with anybody else.”
Shortly after getting engaged, PEOPLE reported that the couple moved into Justin’s home outside of Toronto together.
Got Married In September Of 2018
September 13, 2018, marks a special day for the lovebirds as they officially became Justin and Hailey Bieber through a civil ceremony in New York City. Shortly after, Hailey proudly changed her social media handle to Hailey Rhode Baldwin Bieber.
TMZ snapped a photo of as they walked into the courthouse hand-in-hand. Baldwin, 22, wore a white ensemble while Bieber, 24, kept things casual as he dressed in a striped shirt and dark pants.
In addition to the intimate ceremony, Hailey and Justin once again tied the knot through a more extravagant celebration in South Carolina. Their second ceremony was held on September 30, 2019 surrounded by more than 150 family and friends.
Justin Bieber And His Wife Hailey Got Matching Tattoos
Life seemed to be just peachy for the pair as they learned to navigate life together. In 2021, Hailey showed her support for her husband by getting matching tattoos in honor of his chart-topping single “Peaches.” However, things were not always smooth sailing for the newlyweds. They experienced health scares, faced ongoing rumors and struggled with their own individual mental health. Through it all, they have remained relatively open about the challenges they faced together since saying “I Do.”
“I just think life is changing all the time,” Hailey said in a statement to Harper’s Bazaar. “Day to day, week to week, year to year. I think a perfect example of that is over the last six months, both of us have gone through very serious health issues. You have to figure out how to deal with this shit as it comes, you know? There’s a reason they say ‘for better or for worse.’ Like, that’s for real!”
Despite any obstacles, Hailed claimed that Justin is “still the person that I wanna be rushing back to.”
She continued, “I might fly somewhere and go do a job, but I can’t wait to come back and hang out. And I feel like that’s because of the effort that’s been put in on both sides. At the end of the day, like, he’s my best friend, but it still does take a lot of work to make it work. And then I know eventually, when kids come in the picture, that’s going to be a whole other season of navigating how to make that work.”
Celebrated Four Years Of Marriage In 2022
They hit four years of marriage in 2022 and commemorated this feat with some adoring Instagram posts.
“Happy anniversary to my best friend and wifey @haileybieber … thanks for making me better in every way,” the singer captioned his Instagram post.
Hailey also chose to showcase a few highlights of their life together through a carousel of photos on Instagram paired with the caption, “4 years married to you,” the model wrote. “The most beautiful human I’ve ever known… love of my life. Thank God for you. 🤍🥂.”
In recent months, fans have begun to speculate that Hailey and Justin may be on rocky terms following a spree of new online drama between his wife and his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez. The public “feud” began on February 22 when Gomez, posted a TikTok joking about how she had accidentally over-laminated her eyebrows.
Hours later, Bieber’s wife appeared to be mocking the former Wizards of Waverly Place star with a screenshot of herself FaceTiming with her longtime friends Kylie Jenner. The two of them showed close-ups of both of their eyebrows, which many fans assumed to be them making fun of Gomez’ recent post.
This action caused fans to stand up for Gomez, who then gained 395 million as of March 6, surpassing Kylie Jenner as the most-followed person on Instagram. Meanwhile, Hailey and Jenner, dubbed “mean girls,” both lost hundreds of thousands of followers within just two weeks.
Justin has yet to comment on the latest drama, but he did recently showcase a total of 24 photos from his 29th birthday party with his wife included in two of them, scorching any rumors of a split. Fans are currently waiting to find out if this will mark the end for the couple or if they will be able to look past all the online accusations and move forward with a happy, healthy marriage.
