Parker McCollum issued an update with fans after he was forced to abruptly cut his performance short on his headlining What Kinda Man Tour at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania, on January 25.
The country superstar was in the midst of his headlining performance, but after performing only six songs, he suddenly fell ill and had to leave the stage.
According to concertgoers, McCollum was noticeably unwell when he took the stage around 9:30 PM EST, admitting he was feeling sick. Before leaving the stage, McCollum sincerely apologized to the crowd, saying, “I apologize sincerely, I’m going to call the show… I’ll give each and every single one of y’all your money back. It is from the deepest part of my heart that I apologize for having to do this… I’ve never done this in all the years I’ve been singing country music. I apologize sincerely. I hope you guys will forgive us. We will come back and make it up. I will give every penny you spent tonight back. Thank you so much.”
Parker McCollum Issued A Statement, Explaining What Happened During Pennsylvania Concert
Now, McCollum is speaking out to explain what happened that evening in more detail. He began by recalling to feel sick before the show during his meet and greet.
In a “quick update” video to fans, the Texas native explained, “Long story short, I was in the meet and greet before the show. I had about two people left, and all of a sudden just out of nowhere, bam, I felt it in my stomach. I said, ‘man, I’m about to be very, very sick’ [and] I knew that something was pretty wrong and spent about an hour sitting with my head in my lap trying to make myself throw up just to try to see if that would make me feel better [and] I couldn’t really do it. Showtime rolled around, decided to try and give it a go.”
McCollum then detailed how he tried to power through the show that evening, but as he continued to perform, it became clear that he wasn’t feeling well.
“Got out there, felt okay the first couple of songs, and then the more I was singing and pushing, it became apparent. And I’m sure y’all could tell in the crowd that I was not doing well up there. I’ve never had to walk off stage in the middle of a show in all the years I’ve been doing this, that was absolutely the worst thing ever to have to end a show like that, especially so early in the night, I cannot tell y’all how much I appreciate y’all being so understanding. I’m sure that’s not how anybody wanted it to go. It’s certainly not how I wanted it to go, but I just didn’t have a choice.”
Sick For 48 Hours After Canceled Concert
He continued, “As soon as I walked offstage, I walked straight to my bus. I didn’t even make it to my bus. I was in the bushes for about 10 minutes, just as violently sick as I’ve ever been in my entire life. Spent about the next 48 hours basically in the fetal position, just incredibly sick, as just unbelievably ill as I’ve ever been in my entire life. Wish that on nobody.”
Graciously Thanked His State College Fans For Understanding
McCollum went on to showcase gratitude and graciously thank his Pennsylvania fans for understanding what happened and for being so supportive.
“I just really appreciate all the fans there in Pennsylvania for showing up,” he humbly stated. “The crowd was electric, the arena was sold out, and everything was kind of teed up to have a great show and in that first weekend of the tour on such a great note and could not have been more the opposite. So again, I appreciate you guys understanding, you have my word. We are working on a date sometime this year to come back and make that show up to you guys. I really appreciate the support and everybody reaching out and checking on me, I’m getting a lot better.”
He concluded, “Let y’all know we are going to come back and make it up. As soon as I have that date, I’ll get back on here and let you guys know when that makeup show will be. But man, just again thank you for understanding, that was incredibly tough for me and I just hate to disappoint you guys. So as soon as we have the date, I’ll let you know and thank you guys. God bless. Peace.”
