Morgan Wallen is teasing new music! The country superstar took to social media at around 2AM CT on Friday (Dec. 22) to share a demo of an unreleased new song, titled “I Had Some Help,” which he co-wrote with Post Malone as well as frequent collaborators ERNEST and Charlie Handsome.

The post, which has since been deleted, featured a work tape of a hip-hip inspired track that finds the East Tennessee native singing about a breakup that was blamed on him. However, as the song progresses, he realizes that it wasn’t all his fault and that he “had some help” from his ex-lover, and they share equal blame in the demise of their relationship.

“Take the blame/ go round like you ain’t guilty of something/ already lost the game that you’ve been running/ well it’s catching up to you/ you think that you’re so innocent after all the shit you did/ I ain’t an angel, you ain’t Heaven sent/ can’t wash our hands of this/ I had some help, it ain’t like I can make this kind of mess all by myself/ don’t act like you ain’t tell me pull that bottle off the shelf…/ if you couldn’t tell/ they say teamwork makes the dream work/ hell I had some help/ help/ help,” Wallen sang.

After sharing the audio clip on social media, backlash ensued as fans picked the song apart and shared concerns for his new sound.

“Not really feeling this one…” one fan wrote, while another admitted, “first Morgan song I haven’t liked.” Hundreds of comments continued to flood in, prompting Wallen to delete the work tape from social media.

The Hitmakers Have Been In The Studio Writing Together

Not only have the pair of superstars been seen hanging out together in a Nashville bar, but they also have been writing songs in the studio, according to Wallen. During a recent interview with Billboard, Wallen revealed that he has been writing songs with Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post.

“[He] likes to write really, really late at night — and I can’t do that three nights in a row. I can do that one night,” Wallen said with a laugh. “I can start about 5 p.m., but starting at 10 p.m. — that’s rough.”

It’s unclear if the unreleased new song will be released on a future Wallen project or Post Malone’s highly-anticipated debut country album. Post Malone confirmed during a recent Twitch livestream that he has a country album in the works and has been seen in the studio with country stars such as ERNEST, Brad Paisley, and Luke Combs, in addition to Wallen.

“Country record is coming,” Post Malone said, shocking fans. “I keep singing a song that we made while I was in Nashville, and it’s so f—ing sick, but it’s not out.” He added, “We made such sick music down in Nashville… It was so much, so much fun.” In April, Malone will perform a set of country covers at Stagecoach festival in California.

New Morgan Wallen Album On The Way

Wallen is also currently working on the follow-up to his record-breaking third studio album, One Thing At A Time. He revealed on that he is working on his fourth album during an interview with Billboard. During the interview, the 30-year-old country star shared that he is currently “writing and reviewing” songs for album 4. Wallen’s fourth studio album will follow his record-breaking project, One Thing At A Time, which features 36 songs.

Despite Wallen’s time in the studio, several songs from his One Thing At A Time album will still impact country radio as singles, including his newest single, the Eric Church-assisted “Man Made A Bar.”

Morgan Wallen And Post Malone Collaborate On Joe Diffie Tribute Album

Additionally, Wallen recently joined forces with Post Malone and HARDY for a collaborative performance of Joe Diffie’s iconic 1993 hit, “Pickup Man,” at the 2023 CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. The trio of hitmakers’ collaboration will appear on the forthcoming HIXTAPE Vol. 3: DIFFTAPE, which will serve as a tribute to late country music icon Joe Diffie, who died in March of 2020. The project, which will be released in March of 2024, was announced immediately following their CMA Awards performance.

“The Diffie Estate is thrilled to partner with Big Loud and HARDY in preserving and revitalizing Joe Diffie’s musical legacy,” the Estate shared in a press release at the time. “With their shared excitement and passion, this collaboration promises to carry on the incredible journey of a true legend.”

To celebrate the announcement of DIFFTAPE, “Pickup Man” (feat. Joe Diffie & Post Malone) and “John Deere Green” (feat. Joe Diffie, HARDY & Morgan Wallen)” were released as a “Small Batch” in November of 2023.
