Morgan Wade will undergo a double mastectomy in the fall.
During a recent interview with Page Six at London’s Highways Festival, the fast-rising country star revealed that she recently tested positive for the BRCA gene (BReast CAncer gene 1), which indicates a much higher risk of developing breast cancer.
“I had the BRCA gene, it’s a breast cancer gene so I’m having a double mastectomy in November,” Wade explained, detailing the preventative measure she’s taking to avoid the possibility of a breast cancer diagnosis in the future.
Hitting The Road “Really Hard” This Year
The 28-year-old singer went on to share that she will be hitting the road “really hard” until her surgery.
“Then November and December, I have off to rest,” Wade added. “I’m feeling fine; I’m just pissed I won’t be able to work out because I really like working out. That’s my only qualm about it.”
Wade then opened up about several members of her family getting a mastectomy.
“My mom had it, and my little cousin is going to get it, but I’ll be fine,” the “Wilder Days” singer continued before sharing that she received the test results in 2022 while in Europe.
New Album, Psychopath
The news comes after Morgan Wade announced her highly-anticipated second studio album, Psychopath, which arrives on August 25 via Sony Music Nashville.
“Regardless of what people say about Psychopath, I’m proud because I feel like it showcases where I’m at with my sophomore album,” Wade shared of the project. “I have no choice but to be authentic. And I have to feel what I feel. And right now, I’m really feeling the music.”
The project features 13 songs, including the recently released, self-penned title track, which is a one-take meditation on “being so engrossed in someone, it’s like “What the hell was I doing before I met you? I don’t even fucking know!” Don’t let the title fool you: “When you look at the title, you don’t assume that’s a love song. But it is.”
She took to social media to ready fans for the new project and detail how Psychopath will differ from her debut project, Reckless.
“When I went in to make Reckless, I didn’t have any expectations. @sadlervaden and I sat down with the songs that we had written and gave each song its own sound and its own life… with no pressure,” Wade added. “I didn’t know that Reckless was going to change everything for me. That record catapulted me into my career. It made fans and friends out of all of you reading this and coming to my shows literally all over the world, now. When I started working on Psychopath I was nervous (still am) about following such a ‘critically-acclaimed’ album. But as I sit here and listen to this art that Sadler and I created (again), I am proud. This record shows where I have been since Reckless, and where I’m at now. I hope you guys can feel my authenticity and that you can get something out of this project.”
Psychopath is available for pre-save/preorder now HERE.
