Luke Grimes may be back in his rustic cowboy boots for his reprised role as Kayce Dutton in Marshals, the 2026 spin-off of Yellowstone, but these days, his most important role doesn’t come with a script.

The successful actor and singer/songwriter is embracing life as a new father after welcoming his first child, a son, Rigel Randolph Grimes, into the world with his wife, Brazilian model Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, in October 2024. While the couple has kept their little one largely out of the spotlight, Grimes admits the wee one has already become a constant presence in both his work and daily life, which means he’s already visited his famous father on the set of Marshals in Utah.

“Oh yeah, he goes everywhere, man,” Grimes told Music Mayhem of his child, who inspired his song “Hummingbird” on his new Red Bird album, in a recent interview. “We try not to be apart as much as possible. So whenever I’m filming, they’re living with me up there in Park City, and he comes to set all the time.”

“We’ve got to be careful about what days he comes to set,” he adds. “Because he’s little and there’s a lot of… I kill a lot of people in the show, so we’ve got to be careful.”

As far as the music side of it all, Grimes says his mini-me is also along for the ride.

“Whenever I go to Savannah to record, they come with me,” he said, “My wife and my kid, and Dave (his producer) has a wall of polaroids from all the different studio sessions, and my baby boy is all over that wall. So he’s definitely coming.”

As Grimes continues his Dutton days in Marshals, which premiered March 1 and airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, his worlds at home and on set have started to blend seamlessly. Filming in Utah while living with his family in Park City has allowed him to keep them close, something he says is a top priority. Still, the adjustment comes with a few lighthearted moments, especially for his son.

“It’s just so funny to me that he’s not used to seeing me wear a cowboy hat at home,” Grimes shares of his son. “Obviously, when I’m shooting Marshals, I have one on all the time, and so he just got a kick out of the fact that I wore this big thing on my head anytime he saw me at work and didn’t quite know what it was. And so he’s trolled me pretty hard about my cowboy hat.”

While his son may not be watching Dad on screen just yet (Grimes says screens are still off-limits for the 18-month-old), music has already become a special bonding experience for the entire family. So much so, Grimes is tickled that his son already enjoys his solo work.

“No, he’s not allowed to do screens yet. He’s still 18 months, so we’re very worried about him watching anything yet, but he loves the music, which is the most flattering thing of all time,” Grimes says. “He’s not big enough to do it, just to show me he loves music. He legitimately likes my music, and that makes me feel so cool. We have a big record player and a bunch of stacks of records, and he always points at the records and says, ” Dada. And my wife puts it on, and he walks around with the sleeve. It’s very cute.”

Luke Grimes and his wife Bianca Rodrigues first shared via Instagram that they were expecting in August 2024 before announcing their son’s arrival that October.  “Welcome to the world, little man,” Rodrigues wrote at the time, later — in a separate post — adding, “And then there were 3 🫂.”

Since then, the couple has continued to keep their son’s life mostly private, offering only small glimpses into their growing family.

Marshals airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Episodes stream the same day for Paramount+ Premium subscribers, with availability for Essential subscribers beginning on Mondays.
