Kenny Chesney is currently working on his next album, though there isn’t yet a date for a new batch of music from the country star. In a new press release, Chesney offered an update on his upcoming project, revealing that he’s in the process of figuring out “which of the songs makes this record.”

“We’ve been having an ongoing conversation about life, love, friendships, what we lose and the people we remember since ‘Young,’ and that’s something I’m mindful of,” Chesney shared, adding that he’s focused on finding “the best collection of songs we can give No Shoes Nation.”

Working With Co-Producer And Frequent Collaborator Buddy Cannon

The 55-year-old has co-written a number of songs for the project and is also a co-producer with Buddy Cannon. Musicians include Chesney’s touring band members Nick Buda (drums), Kenny Greenberg (guitars) and Danny Rader (guitars, banjo, bouzouki) as well as Pat Buchanan (electric guitar), Chad Cromwell (drums), Dan Dugmore (steel guitar), Michael Rojas (B3, Wurlizter, piano) and Dan Tyminski (acoustic guitar).

Chesney has held several writing retreats “just to write and have fun,” and while he “never” wants to “just force songs on a record because I wrote them,” he loves “the process of writing, whether I’m writing with friends or new people.”

“It opens up how you see the world, and music,” he explained, sharing that he has “four or five” songs he wrote that he feels “pretty sure are gonna be on this album.”

Chesney’s New Album May Be Longer Than Prior Releases

With so many songs he’s passionate about to choose from, Chesney’s newest project might be a bit lengthier than those he’s released in the past. “I wouldn’t be surprised if this record comes in a little bit longer than normal, because there are too many good songs to leave behind,” he revealed.

While fans know how much Chesney loves the beach and the coast, his music is made for everyone, including those residing in the flyover states.

“There is so much to say – and sing – about lives people between the coasts are experiencing,” the Tennessee native mused. “It doesn’t take a lot to be happy, if you choose to seek it, just like the passion people beyond New York and L.A. employ every day is every bit as thrilling. To me, that’s what my songs are made of.”

The East Tennessee Native Is “Ready” To Share His New Music

The “Take Her Home” singer has been recording his latest project in various studios in Nashville and emphasized that he’s “ready” to share new music with his fans.

“Because of the amount of time we’ve had to work… and not just work, but really just hang out, write, experiment and play with different kinds of music… I got to go places, do some things we wouldn’t normally try because we have such a clear vision of what we’re trying to do,” he said.

Kenny Chesney Is Fully Experiencing The Creative Process With This Project

Speaking to Audacy last year, Chesney shared that with his new project, he has been able to fully experience the creative process, which he hasn’t always been able to do with past records.

“Sometimes I get so, so involved in everything, and it can take away the creative process,” he said. “When you’re really busy out on the road and you’re exhausted and you’re trying to make a record, but you’re also trying to run a company, and you’re also trying to run this and do this — all of a sudden, you’re brain is just in so many different directions. It’s good to focus on the idea of just creating, and that’s what I’ve been doing for a while.”

In November, Chesney released the first single from his new album, “Take Her Home,” which was co-written by HARDY. Chesney’s new album will be his first since 2020’s Here and Now, which topped the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

Coming up in April 2024, Kenny Chesney will likely begin treating fans to some of his new music when he launches his Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour, which will visit stadiums across the country with Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker.
