Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg will host a brand-new, musical reality singing competition called American Song Contest.

The announcement was first made on Sunday evening (Feb. 13) during a promotional clip that aired during the start of the Super Bowl LVI halftime show, which featured Dogg as one of the headliners.

“Huge announcement, y’all!!” Clarkson wrote on Twitter after the clip aired. “I’m so excited to finally share that I’ll be hosting #AmericanSongContest with @SnoopDogg!! I can’t wait!! Watch the premiere LIVE on March 21st, only on NBC.”

“I am honored to host ‘American Song Contest’ alongside my lil sis Kelly Clarkson, aka Miss Texas  🎤🎬👊🏾👊🏾,” Snoop Dogg said.

“I have been a fan and love the concept of Eurovision and am thrilled to bring the musical phenomenon to America,” Clarkson added. “I’m so excited to work with Snoop and can’t wait to see every state and territory represented by artists singing their own songs.”

Following the clip’s airing on national television, the show uploaded a clip to YouTube, which see Clarkson and Dogg telling fans about the show.

“Every great song has its own kind of vibe,” Dogg says in the teaser clip’s opening. “Just like the streets they come from.”

“Now all that music from across America will go head-to-head on stage,” Clarkson added.

“Every state and territory will compete live for your votes,” Dogg continued, as Clarkson chimed in to say, “In the biggest televised music event that you’ve ever seen.”

“America’s next great hit could come from your hometown,” Clarkson said.

What Is American Song Contest?

The show, based on the Eurovision Song Contest, will feature live performances that represent all 50 states, five U.S. territories, and the nation’s capital. Contestants will be competing to win the country’s vote for the best hit song.

An incredible solo artist, duo or a band will represent each location and perform a new original song, celebrating the depth and variety of different styles and genres across America. The live competition consists of three rounds as the artists compete in a series of Qualifying Rounds, followed by the Semi-Finals and the ultimate Grand Final where one state or territory will emerge victorious.

The series will run for eight weeks on Monday nights with the Grand Final scheduled for May 9.

The 56 artists will be named on a later date.

Dogg and Clarkson previously appeared together during Season 20 of NBC’s The Voice, where Clarkson served as a coach and Dogg as a mega mentor.

Hosted by Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg, American Song Contest premieres live on March 21 at 8/7c on NBC.
