Being nominated for three different awards and putting on a must-see performance at the 2023 CMA Awards, working on his yet-to-be named third studio album, gearing up for his 2023 Damn Good Time Tour and more, Jordan Davis has quite a few tricks up his sleeve.
In an exclusive interview with Music Mayhem, the country superstar chatted about all things surrounding the 57th Annual CMA Awards, including his one-of-a-kind campaign with Crown Royal and Bunker Labs seen during the award show this past Wednesday (November 8), as well as what the future has in store for him beyond “Country Music’s Biggest Night.”
Campaign with Crown Royal and Bunker Labs for the 2023 CMA Awards
Aside from receiving three nominations at the 2023 CMA Awards — Single of the Year, Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year all for “Next Thing You Know” — as well as performing the chart-topping single to the crowd at Bridgestone Arena, Davis took the stage a second time for something that was arguably even more spectacular.
To celebrate Crown Royal’s sixth year in partnership with the CMA Awards, Davis collaborated with the world-renowned whiskey brand for a project titled “That Deserves a Crown,” honoring those who have served our country. During the award show, Crown Royal debuted a live integration featuring the talented singer/songwriter himself, as well as Bunker Labs, a nonprofit organization devoted to supporting military veterans and military families in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
“My personal passion for our military led me to join some veterans as we participated in the Crown Royal purple bag project, where I met Blake Hogan, CEO of Bunker Labs, a nonprofit organization supporting veterans and veteran-owned businesses,” Davis shared in the on-screen activation, before taking the stage with Hogan himself.
Says He Has A “Personal Passion” For The Military
In an exclusive interview with Music Mayhem, the country crooner gushed about where exactly his “personal passion” for the military comes from as well, elaborating on why he decided to be a part of this campaign. “I’m getting a chance to work with Crown Royal this year on their ‘That Deserves a Crown’ campaign, which is obviously tied in with the military, and you know, that’s something that’s very special to me,” he prefaced, before explaining just how special it is that he is using his platform for something much bigger than himself.
“I have family members that have served, and I’ve always said that, you know, the military is something that I was never brave enough to do,” the Louisiana native explained. “I’ve been so gifted and so blessed through music to where, you know, I get to partner with companies like Crown Royal and giving back and shining light on, you know, military and veterans and service members that take that bit of service past just serving in the military, which is something that just goes to show you just how selfless our military is.”
Davis concluded with a beaming smile, “When they reached out about, you know, coming on board and shining some light on how special this is, I was all about it.”
New Music is on the horizon
While he chatted all about how special his campaign with Crown Royal and Bunker Labs was, the country superstar also admitted that he is working on loads and loads of new tunes at the moment, chatting with Music Mayhem just minutes after a session.
“I actually just left the studio a couple of minutes ago, so new music’s in the works. I feel like it’s always in the works, but I think we’re really honing in on what we want to do for our next album,” Davis teased, prior to diving into what exactly his third studio album has in store.
“This last record that I put out, Bluebird Days, was definitely the most honest I’ve ever been in songwriting… I’ve always wanted to make that record, and I feel like with Bluebird Days I did it, so it’s kind of cool now to put that kind of chapter behind me,” he spilled. “Some of the music I’m writing is a hair different from the stuff that we did on that album, but to me, that’s an important thing as an artist to grow, and to not really kind of get in the groove or get stuck in a rut of, you know, putting out the same music that you’ve been doing.”
“I really think that this new stuff that we’re working on is going to be special and definitely a new side of music that we’ve ever put out,” he concluded with a smirk.
Damn Good Time Tour extends into 2024
While new music from Jordan Davis is definitely in the works, the hitmaker has no plans at slowing down his touring schedule anytime soon. In fact, he just expanded his Damn Good Time Tour, hitting venues in North America and Europe with Ashley Cooke and Mitchel Tenpenny throughout 2024.
Gushing about his opening acts, Davis began by praising Ashley Cooke.
“Ashley is, in my opinion, one of the most talented up-and-coming artists (if you even want to call her up-and-coming anymore. I feel like she’s pretty established now), but you know, to have her out, kicking the show-off, if you haven’t been to an Ashley Cooke show yet, you need to get to one, because she’s an amazing entertainer, amazing singer, great songwriter — the total package.”
To follow, he shared everything that one of his “best buddies in town,” Mitchell Tenpenny, has in store as an opener on the Damn Good Time Tour. “He’s an amazing singer and guy… Mitchell and I have been talking about touring together for a really long time. We toured together with Old Dominion as support acts, and you know, that’s when we kind of first hatched the plan of like, ‘Hey, man. We gotta go out and do shows together,’ and so to get to do that and finally see that come to fruition is really awesome.”
“Best Show We’ve Ever Put On”
With his stellar opening acts aside, the acclaimed artist gushed about what this tour will entail for all attendees. Needless to say, it is certain to be nothing short of stupendous.
“I feel like we’re putting on the best show we’ve ever put on,” Davis dished. “We’ve kind of really come into a groove of what we want people to leave our shows with and feel… I honestly think that this is going to be a special tour, and the fans are in for a really great night of music.”
