Jelly Roll issued a statement after being forced to abruptly cancel his performance that was set to take place during the star-studded finale of NBC’s The Voice on Tuesday evening (Dec. 19). Just moments after the show began, Carson Daly, longtime host of The Voice, revealed the news with unfortunate news viewers.

Cancels Performance On The Voice

Shortly after, the “Save Me” singer took to social media to explain why he is unable to perform and sincerely apologize to fans who were hoping to catch his performance on the show.

“I was looking forward to performing tonight on the Voice, but I am extremely sick and unable to perform,” Jelly Roll explained. “I’m sorry if I have disappointed anyone— if there was even a slight chance I could perform, I would be on that stage tonight.”

He then went on to reveal that while he is too sick to perform this during the Season 24 finale this year, he will be back in May of 2024 for the popular singing competition show’s season 25 finale.

“The Voice has been kind enough to have me back in May next year, and I look forward to giving y’all the best performance of my life. Thank y’all for all of your love and support!” Jelly Roll’s statement concluded.

“Save Me”

Jelly Roll was originally expected to perform “Save Me,” sans Lainey Wilson. The song officially impacted country radio on September 5 and earned a whopping 60 first-week adds on stations around the country. “Save Me” received over 91 historic adds and earned the title of most-added at country radio at the time.

Co-written by Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, alongside David Ray Stevens, “Save Me” finds the Nashville native begging for help with addiction. “Somebody save me, me from myself/ I’ve spent so long living in Hell/ They say my lifestyle is bad for my health/ It’s the only thing that seems to help,” Jelly Roll sang on the track’s first verse.

The newly reimagined version of “Save Me” featuring Lainey Wilson appears on Jelly Roll’s latest album, WHITSITT CHAPEL, which arrived on June 2, 2023. The tune was originally recorded as a solo song on Jelly Roll’s 2020 album, Self Medicated. “Save Me” follows Jelly Roll’s multi-week chart-topper, “NEED A FAVOR” and his first-ever No. 1 hit, “Son Of A Sinner.”

Is Jelly Roll Sick?

The news comes just one week after Jelly Roll wrapped up his stint of shows at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball tour. During his show in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center on December 12, he told fans that he wasn’t feeling well and later took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a message with his followers.

“Thank you Philly- that might have been the sickest I’ve been on stage in my life, but y’all made me feel so good! Love y’all- thank y’all,” he wrote on X
