As he continues to build momentum on country radio with “House Again,” Hudson Westbrook is treating fans to a new tune called “Sober,” a track that has been taking TikTok by storm. The buzz-worthy track provides fans a closer look into what can be expected from the Texas native’s yet-to-be announced upcoming full-length album.
Hudson Westbrook Releases “Sober”
Written with vocal producer Lukas Scott, frequent collaborator Neil Medley, and good buddy Beau Bailey and produced alongside Scott and Ryan Youmans, “Sober” is a radio-ready anthem that sonically falls in a similar vein to “House Again.”
Featuring a waltz beat, coupled with blues and country elements of retro electric guitars and pedal/steel, “Sober” captures the defining sound Westbrook has become known for as he continues to bring his modern, Texas country appeal to a broader audience. Lyrically, “Sober” finds Westbrook comparing time spent with his love interest to the feeling of being in an intoxicated state of euphoria.
“I was in love last night / Better than a bourbon high / That sundress was spinning me out of my mind / Turning me on one kiss at a time / I was hanging on / Never had something that hit me so strong / All of the buzzin’ and none of the hangover /My hearts on a bender I’ll never be sober,” Westbrook sings in earnest, showcasing his undeniable twang on the loved up chorus.

Story Behind “Sober” by Hudson Westbrook
While speaking to Music Mayhem, Westbrook opened up about the inspiration behind “Sober,” saying the song was created from “the idea of going out to the bar and waking up the next morning and being like, ‘That girl was something special. What am I doing? I’ve got to call her again.’”
“It’s the idea of pouring every bottle down the drain because I am so in love with you,” Westbrook shared. “I give up all of my other vices or whatever it might be like, you fill up every gap.”
With its April 25th arrival, “Sober” marks one year since the release of Westbrook’s breakout single “Take It Slow,” which reached the top of the Texas radio charts. As with “Take It Slow,” “Sober” has popped off on TikTok, earning well over 30,000 fan-posted videos since he first teased the track in early April. The tune has also been climbing up TikTok’s Viral 50 chart. Not bad for an artist who has been playing music for just under a year.

Of co-writing the song, Westbrook said, “We were on a writing retreat in Nashville… We were eating breakfast, cooking bacon, and eggs and just hanging out. I was strumming on the guitar, and I just kind of came up with the whole ‘Started with a Hello Darling.’ And then we ended up building off that.”
“My favorite part about [this song] releasing on April 25th is that ‘Take It Slow,’ starts with, ‘Well, darling, and then you have ‘5 to 9’ that says ‘Darling,’ and then you have ‘Sober,’ which is saying ‘Darling’ and creating a — it’s a love song. I love the idea of dropping a love song before summer, a slow dancing song, a song for people too. I guess I love a good positive song, but I guess I can write a good negative song too, or a ‘House Again.’”
In addition to “Sober,” Westbrook debuted the official music video for the track. Directed by Emma Kate Golden, the clip showcases the 2025 Music Mayhem Artist To Watch wearing earbuds and strolling through an antique store as he croons the lyrics of the romantic song.
