Gwen Stefani got emotional when husband Blake Shelton asked her to be his duet partner for “Happy Anywhere.”

During a recent event in Nashville, before Shelton’s headlining Bridgestone Arena concert on Sept. 9, the newlyweds celebrated the success of their two chart-topping duets, “Happy Anywhere” and “Nobody But You.” Throughout the event, Shelton and Stefani as well as the songwriters on the tracks got to give brief speeches and thank you messages, and during Stefani’s she not only thanked Shelton for letting her ride his coat tails, but also thanked country music fans for welcoming her in so warmly, while also revealing that she actually cried when Shelton asked her to be his duet partner on “Happy Anywhere.”

“Blake Shelton, thank you for letting me ride your coat tails all this time,” Stefani told the small group of people at the invite-only event (via PEOPLE). “I truly am a fish out of water. I’m from Orange County, but I’m wearing cowboy boots for this. I am such a fan of songwriting and writers. When Blake asked me to be on ‘Happy Anywhere,’ I cried because I was so excited about it. The song is so ‘our song’ and we’re so in love and it really is the perfect way to describe us. When I heard ‘Nobody But You’ I was so blown away by the song I was jealous that I wasn’t on it.”

“Happy Anywhere” was co-written by Ross Copperman, Josh Osborne and Matt Jenkins. The song became Shelton’s 28th No. 1 hit and Stefani’s second No. 1 at Country Radio.

The couple also celebrated their first chart-topping duet together, “Nobody But You,” during the event.

Co-written by Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, and Tommy Lee James, “Nobody But You” appears on Shelton’s God’s Country: Fully Loaded. The track earned Stefani her first-ever No. 1 single at Country Radio and Shelton’s 27th.

In addition to the aforementioned duets, the couple also have two other collaborative tracks together including “Go Ahead And Break My Heart” and “You Make It Feel Like Christmas.”

Additionally, after six years together, country superstar, Shelton, 45, and No Doubt singer, Stefani, 51, exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony in front of their closest family and friends earlier this summer on July 3. The elegant Carson Daly-officiated ceremony took place inside a chapel on Shelton’s ranch, built exclusively for the superstar couple to say their “I Do’s.”

Shelton and Stefani got engaged back in late October 2020 in Shelton’s hometown of Oklahoma. They first met as coaches on NBC’s The Voice in 2014, following both of their public breakups. The superstar couple began dating in November 2015, just a year after working together as coaches on The Voice.
