Firerose has released her new song “SHINING ARMOR” The piano-laden ballad serves as the title track from the critically acclaimed artist’s current album of the same name.
Written alongside DV Advocate Erin Molan and produced by Sean Rogers, this song sheds a reflective light on the singer’s real-life experience of having gone through a painful, abusive relationship where she became a victim of coercive control. Throughout the song, Firerose doesn’t mince words. She clearly explains how she stayed silent and allowed her abuser to take her down. But through her journey of stepping out of the shadows of darkness and desperate despair, the Australian powerhouse shares a message of both resilience and clarity as she leans deeper into her faith to find the strength to walk away.
“I took hit after hit / But never made a sound / All the bruises I hid / All the ways he’d tear me down / Terrified and captive / Desperate to be free / Then I saw so clear / My knight in shining armor was me,” Firerose sings, showcasing her soft angelic yet powerful vocals on the empowering chorus of the track.
Folks are well aware that Firerose, 37, was previously married and went through a very public divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus, 63, who is now linked to actress Elizabeth Hurley, 60. The two, who met on the set of Hannah Montana, finalized their divorce in August 2024 after seven months of marriage.
Firerose has previously opened up about the fallout between her and Cyrus, but she didn’t name him as the reason for the penning of “Shining Armor,” however that seems to be the inspiration for the track. When asked if the entire album is a reflection of her experience with that relationship, Firerose instead focuses on her healing journey of finding strength and uplifting others through her music.
“I really believe, as an artist, it’s my job to write about what I live. What I’ve experienced is getting through inordinately difficult times in my life,” she said.

Firerose went on to say that alongside difficult relationships, she had formerly struggled with substance abuse, but found herself on the other side of turmoil thanks to her deep faith.
“I’ve struggled in the past with addiction, and thank God I’m nine years sober now,” she said during a discussion on The Erin Molan Show. “He absolutely saved me from that. Similarly, unfortunately, I found myself in an excruciatingly abusive relationship that almost killed me for so many reasons. Unfortunately, everyone who’s gone through an abusive relationship understands that it destroys the very essence of who you are, in terms of your ability to even trust your own intuition. Gaslighting and manipulation, and the psychological warfare that you’re enduring is so profound and confusing from the inside because you deeply love someone who’s also deeply hurting you.”
“You are not just systematically isolated by your abuser from all those who love you, all your friends and everyone, your family, anyone who actually cares about your life and your soul and your wellbeing is systematically separated,” she said. “And it’s so hard to talk about because it’s something that, unless you’ve experienced or unless you love someone who’s experienced it, sometimes it can seem almost like a foreign thing. Well, why didn’t you just leave? What was wrong with you that you stayed in a situation where you were being abused? But it’s so much more psychologically complicated than that.”
Coercive Control, according to a press release, “is abuse; silent, calculated, and often the first step toward physical violence.” The release states that “studies show that 97% of intimate partner homicides were preceded by coercive control, proving it’s often a warning sign before deadly violence.” With that in mind, Firerose hopes to step up to the plate so that others in those types of situations have a voice and know that there truly is a way out of the toxicity of a bad relationship.
“My prayer is that through this song and through the music, they feel less alone,” Firerose said. “That they can just know that if I survived and got through fire, [they] can too. There’s no situation that is too difficult that you can’t get through with faith in yourself and faith in God.”
Equally important, Firerose’s co-writer also went through a similar experience, and together the two collaborators were able to come up with lyrics for the song. Firerose was so grateful to have had the songwriting session with Molan that she shared her gratitude, saying, “One of the most greatest honors of my entire career was the day that you reached out, and you were like, I have some lyrics that I’ve written, and I think that you, I’m being called to share them with you and I want to see what inspires and if nothing happens, don’t worry. And of course, you just being the absolute angel that you are just took all the pressure off. And what happened when I received those unbelievably powerful, beautiful lyrics that you had written? I sat at the piano, and I just let God speak through me like I have my entire life, which is the gift of music, and I just know that it was him because what came out was this song ‘Shining Armor’ that is already, even though it’s just been out a couple of days, it’s already reaching those souls that need to hear it and need to feel that message of hope.”
“Shining Armor” is the focus track of Firerose’s deeply raw and spiritual new album spanning Christian, Pop, and Country music genres, under the banner of Wings Music Group. As with the song, the album focuses on some of Firerose’s darkest times. With a willingness to speak and share her truth through 8 tracks, Firerose takes on the grief and scars, serving listeners a fearless story that’s set to showcase her truth, worth, and artistry as an unstoppable force.
“Another song from the album, so I guess dear to my heart, is ‘War Is One,’ which is a testimony and declaration of victory over that darkness,” Firerose said. “My every day is completely centered around God and I try to be as close to the Holy Spirit as I possibly can, which for me is listening to that deep inner quiet voice that’s telling me, that’s fundamentally in all of us that tells us when something is for us, when someone is against us and listening to it and building that discernment because it’s a difficult world to navigate.”
“I really believe that ‘War Is One,’ is this declaration over all evil and just saying ultimately good has won already. I wrote it from an incredibly difficult place, and I wrote it to my future self that I wanted to be singing these words,” she continued. “And it’s literally like, don’t tell me that my scars, and time behind prison bars defines me because living in the streets brought me to my knees where he found me, obviously being God and the chorus is like all my mistakes can’t pull me away from God’s plans for me, my darkest days will never erase my destiny, and that’s just like what I’m living.”
