Lainey Wilson is currently supporting Eric Church on select dates of Church’s The Outsiders Revival Tour, and the two superstars recently used the opportunity to perform a duet during the first of two nights at The Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach, Alabama on Friday night.
After Wilson had performed her own set, she returned to the stage during Church’s show to join him on “Over When It’s Over,” from Church’s acclaimed 2011 album Chief.
Church typically performed “Over When It’s Over” on the road with backing vocalist Joanna Cotten, who left his band last year to pursue her own solo work. During Friday’s show, Wilson stepped up to the plate, nailing the song with her own powerful pipes after Church kicked off the tune with a guitar.
Videos shared by fans on social media prove that Wilson can more than hold her own with Church, and it’s safe to guess that many fans wouldn’t mind an official duet from the two stars.
Lainey Wilson Documented Her Day Opening For Eric Church
Wilson documented her time opening for Church on social media, posting a video compilation of her performances in Orange Beach that included footage of her sound checking with Church for their duet and performing together.
“When the Chief asks you to play, it’s not a question but a heck of an honor,” she wrote. “Thank you, @ericchurchmusic, for introducing us to your fans. I’d say we had a pretty dang good time. Thank ya Orange Beach for making this past weekend one to remember!”
Church Offers A New Experience On The outsiders Revival Tour
Eric Church is known for giving fans a completely new experience every time he embarks on a tour, and this trek is no different. The North Carolina native has a number of deep cuts on his set list and has reimagined hits like “Drink In My Hand” and “Springsteen” with a 12-piece band that features a horn section and a new group of backing vocalists to give the songs some funked-out flare.
The Outsiders Revival Tour began in June and runs through the end of September with a rotating group of opening acts including Wilson, Red Clay Strays, Whiskey Myers, Jelly Roll, Hailey Whitters and Paul Cauthen.
Previous support came from artists including Cody Jinks, Ashley McBryde, Koe Wetzel, Midland, Parker McCollum, Travis Tritt, Elle King, Jackson Dean, Morgan Wade, Muscadine Bloodline, Shane Smith & The Saints and Ray Wylie Hubbard.
The tour is stopping exclusively at outdoor amphitheaters, which Church did purposefully as a way to create a new feeling for fans.
“When I approach touring, I’m always inspired by a new experience, a new way to gather, to express ourselves sonically and visually. Whether it’s solo, in the round, double down; being able to bring a different perspective has always brought out our best creatively,” he shared in a statement when the tour was announced.
He continued, “Well, we have never done an outdoor summer tour. Never headlined amphitheaters. Never brought a summer experience to your town that featured artists we want to share the summer with. Until now. See you in the season of sunshine with some fellow outsiders that shine brightest when the sun goes down.”
“This Tour Won’t Be Replicated”
Last month, the singer further opened up to Rolling Stone about the tour, which dives heavily into Church’s most recent albums, 2018’s Desperate Man and his 2021 triple album, Heart & Soul.
“The last tour was maybe my least favorite, because of Covid weirdness every night. I never got to lean into the Desperate Man album and Heart & Soul. This time, we changed that. Most of [the set] is those two albums,” he explained. “If you’re coming to hear ‘Talladega’ and ‘Record Year,’ you ain’t gonna hear them. There are a ton of songs people are leaving going, ‘He didn’t play his hits.’ And, no, we didn’t.”
“This tour won’t be replicated,” he added. “Once it’s done, we won’t do this again.”
Wilson Set To Hit The Road With HARDY
Meanwhile, Lainey Wilson recently wrapped her stint alongside Luke Combs on his 2023 World Tour, which came to a close at the end of July after making stops at stadiums across North America, including in cities such as Nashville, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
Later this year, the “Heart Like A Truck” singer will join HARDY on the road for the second leg of his the mockingbird & THE CROW tour, presented by Ebay Motors, which kicks off on August 31 in Knoxville, Tennessee at Knoxville Civic Coliseum.
