Emma Caroline showcased her love for country music with a cover of Kacey Musgraves’ “Slow Burn” during night three of The Voice blind auditions on Monday evening (March 8).

The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native took the stage with her powerful vocals and earned a chair turn from Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. The superstars each tried to convince Emma Caroline to join their team while fellow coaches John Legend and Nick Jonas did their best to coerce her to choose Team Kelly.

“I think Nick and I were probably a little hesitant to turn cause we knew once Blake turned that there was probably no chance that you would do anything as daring as picking someone other than Blake,” John Legend said.

Legend went on to challenge her to go with Clarkson, versus the safe choice of Shelton.

“This show rewards artistry and independence… If you want to go the safe route, pick Blake,” he joked.

Clarkson did her best to convince Emma Caroline to join her team. “I love that song. You like country obviously, anyway, I’m a huge fan of country music,” Clarkson shared. Kacey kind of represents a part of that kind of like a new lane but it’s an old lane.

“I love female country artists. I’ve won with a female country artist,” she added. “And I would love for you to be on my team.”

Noticeably happy to see a country artist on the stage, Shelton used his country cred to persuade Emma Caroline to be a member of Team Blake.

“I’m so excited because you bring something that we don’t get to see that often,” Shelton gushed. “You have more of a mountain-sounding voice, which I love by the way. I disagree with it being an old lane cause I think she’s kind of created a new spot in country music and people are so attracted to that, you know and I think you can do something like that too.”

“Country music has been my life since I was 14, 15 years old and now what’s exciting for me is to find new young talent. I would be honored to be your coach.”

Emma Caroline admitted it was “such a hard choice,” but ultimately decided to join Team Blake.

“So excited to have Emma Caroline on my team, that has got to be one of the countriest names we’ve ever had on the show,” Shelton added.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
