Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour has become the highest-grossing concert tour in history, earning $817.9 million across 278 shows thus far, according to Billboard.
John’s tour has also become the first tour in Billboard‘s archives to gross $800 million, bypassing Ed Sheeran, who raked in $776.4 million on his Divide Tour. John first announced his multi-year farewell tour in 2018, the outlet indicated.
John kicked off his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which is promoted by AEG Presents, in September. Although he has brought the tour to multiple continents, John has made the most money off of his shows in North America. The first three legs of the “Crocodile Rock” singer’s tour earned him $268.2 million over 116 shows.
His stadium shows that took place in the U.S. from July to November 2022 brought in 83 percent of the revenue at $222.1 million, Billboard reported.

In addition, John has done well in Europe and Australia and New Zealand, earning $69.2 million and $5.1 million respectively. The 75-year-old British has 51 stops left on the European leg of his tour through July 8. He also recently finished up the Oceania leg of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour from Jan. 8-24.
And while John has made a lot of money on his tour, he still lags behind all-time ranking in terms of ticket sales. John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour has sold 5.3 million tickets, ranking behind previous record holders Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, and Guns N’ Roses, Billboard noted. He may be able to catch up and move into fourth place on the list of all-time rankings and surpass both Coldplay and Guns N’ Roses with his last round of European shows, however, according to the outlet.
John wrapped his final round of U.S. shows in November in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium. The show, which included guest performances from Dua Lipa, Kiki Dee, and Brandi Carlile was streamed on Disney+.
John took the time to reflect on the momentous occasion via his Instagram account, sharing a photo of himself wearing a bedazzled Dodger’s uniform similar to the one he sported in 1975.
“Last night, I played my 2001st and final US tour show ever,” John wrote. “I can’t thank each and every person who was a part of it, at Dodger Stadium and watching at home, enough for the most incredible night. I love you all and you will forever be in my heart,” he said, adding the hashtags, #EltonFarewellTour and #EltonLive to the post’s caption.

John also shared photos of himself with special guests Lipa, Dee, and Carlile in a subsequent post, saying, “Dodger Stadium never sounded so good…it was an absolute honour to have you all join me on stage. Thank you forever,” including a rocketship emoji, as an ode to his song, “Rocket Man” at the end of the message.
John will resume the European leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour on Mar. 23 in Liverpool at the M&S Bank Arena, according to his official website. He’ll make stops in Birmingham, London, Belfast, Dublin, Munich, Hamburg, and others before wrapping the tour in Stockholm at the Tele2 Arena on Jul. 8.
