Ella Langley and Riley Green joined forces to perform their sultry waltz-styled duet, “you look like you love me,” at the 2024 CMA Awards.
Langley, donning a sheer feathery black ensemble, launched the performance from her seat in the star-studded audience, positioned in front of Parker McCollum and his wife, Hallie Ray Light McCollum.
As she made her way to the stage, she sang the opening verse and reached out to touch Michael Trotter Jr. of The War and Treaty’s cowboy hat during the lyric: “Well, I saw him walk in/ With his cowboy hat.” When Langley arrived to the stage, she performed at a microphone in front of a bar complete with barstools, beer bottles and glasses of beer.
Green, dressed in blue jeans, a white shirt under a black suede suit jacket, and a cowboy hat, then emerged from the crowd with his acoustic guitar, standing behind Nate Smith to sing his verse of the anthemic song, which took home the award for Musical Event of the Year at the prestigious awards show. He then made his way to the stage to join Langley on stage. The pair of superstars then traded vocals before flawlessly harmonizing on the tune’s chorus.
“Excuse me/ You look like you love me/ You look like you want me/ To want you to come on home/ And baby, I don’t blame you/ For lookin’ me up and down across this room/ I’m drunk, and I’m ready to leave/ And you look like you love me,” Langley and Green sang in perfect sync on the chorus.
Co-written by Ella Langley and Riley Green alongside Aaron Raitiere, “You Look Like You Love Me” appear on Langley’s critically acclaimed debut album, hungover, and has become one of the singer/songwriter’s most-streamed song to date.
“You Look Like You Love Me”
Ahead of The 58th Annual CMA Awards, Green discussed the Top 10 and climbing hit with the Country Music Association (CMA). “Well, I really enjoy how organic it was that this song became what it was. I mean, I’ve been a fan of Ella for a long time, and when we had the song, and we cut it, I certainly didn’t know it would be this big of a hit,” Green told the CMA. “So it was really cool to see that song kind of take a life of its own. And long before it was in the Top 10 Country radio or getting any awards, it was just a really popular song with fans. So playing the song live, it has probably been the biggest moment for me in front of the big crowds and hear ’em sing it.”
Ella Langley also recently opened up about having Riley Green on “you look like you love me” during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I think Riley’s the perfect person because we both grew up on the same kind of music,” Langley previously explained. “When I think of talking in the song, I think of ‘You Never Even Call Me By My Name’, where they’re talking in the back half of that song… And then, you know, bringing some Alabama out to shine in the world.” She continued, “Seeming as I wrote this song as a joke, thinking it would never go anywhere, I would say the success is pretty nuts. It’s definitely changing my life, and it’s exciting.”
Additionally, Ella Langley will join Riley Green on his headlining The Damn Country Music Tour in 2025.
