Dallas Smith is keeping the momentum going into 2024 with new projects underway, including a brand new live performance video for his song “CRZY.” Lucky readers of Music Mayhem are getting the first look at the video, ahead of its release, in this exclusive premiere.
Premiere Of Live “CRZY” Performance Video
This clip, shot by Justin Clough and filmed inside Canada’s largest recreation venue – the CNOOC Field House at MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray, Albert, finds Smith delivering one of his first true live performances of the song in front of a ginormous audience. Wearing a blue ball cap and dressed casually in a buttoned-down shirt and blue jeans, the Canadian country artist energetically fronts a full band and belts out the lyrics that recall the memory of a fond romance, which ended with one person leaving for college.
“Well, bye-bye, C-R-Z-Y / Keep between the ditches and I hope you find / What you’re lookin’ for / Maybe little more / Than this hold you down, small town, put the pedal to the floor / And ride, ride C-R-Z-Y / Keep that motor runnin’ so those pretty blues eyes / Will see the world / Sure gonna miss you, girl / But some birds were born to fly / So bye-bye, C-R-Z-Y,” Smith sings throughout the uptempo chorus of the song, penned by Jaren Johnston, Travis Meadows, and Stephen Wilson Jr.
While giving viewers a front-seat view of what Smith’s current music looks and sounds like in an arena setting, the video also shows a behind-the-scenes b-roll of the 3x consecutive CCMA Entertainer of the Year meeting with fans, hanging out with his crew while backstage and getting ready for his concert.
“CRZY” Appears On Dallas Smith’s Self-Titled Album
Smith’s video for “CRZY” follows a series of live screenings from the artist. Previously, he highlighted songs, including “Use Me” and “Fixer Upper.” “CRZY” along with the previously mentioned songs appear on Smith’s new fifth studio album, Dallas Smith, which dropped in October of 2023. The Joey Moi-produced project marks the first of many future projects that Smith has released in the US following his signing with Big Loud Records. Additionally, the 12-track collection features writing credits from a star-studded cast of hitmakers, including Morgan Wallen, HARDY, Ashley Gorley, Cole Swindell, ERNEST, Rodney Clawson, and Hillary Lindsey.

Smith’s “CRZY” video comes as he gears up to embark on his tour, set to launch in April. In the meantime, fans can find out more about Smith’s live performance video for “CRZY,” his latest album, and what’s to come in this exclusive Q&A below.
Exclusive Q&A With Dallas Smith
Tell me a little bit about the live video that we’re premiering on Music Mayhem, and what it was like shooting that day?
This live video is for “CRZY,” one of my favorite tracks off the album. This video is actually one of the first times we played it live, but I love the way it works in our set, and it was great to see the crowd response.
What do you hope fans will take from this video and other live videos you’ve been sharing for the album?
I hope fans see the meaning behind the songs and can relate to them on a personal level. Sharing these live videos brings a different perspective that you can see and hear.
What drew you to this song when you first heard it?
This song has a really cool throwback rock vibe. I like the energy I knew it would bring to the live show.
How does this song fit into the album?
This album was all about maturity to me. It’s my 5th album, so I wanted to sing about themes that were authentic to me. This is a grown-up song that fits with the kind of things I want to talk about, and that hopefully people can relate to.
You collaborated with some big names on this album. For example, Morgan Wallen co-wrote your previous release, ‘Fixer Upper.’ Can you talk about working alongside him, and have you two become good friends in the process? You also worked with everyone from Ashley Gorley and Hillary Lindsey to HARDY and Ernest. Can you tell me about those relationships?
I didn’t co-write these songs, but I know all these great writers from the years I’ve spent in Nashville. I’m just honored that they trust me to put a vocal on the great songs they’ve written. It’s a good feeling when writers let me record a bunch of their songs because they know Joey and I will deliver in the studio.
You also worked with Joey Moi multiple times on previous projects. How has this time been different?
Joey and I go way back and have worked together for years. My voice is actually the first voice he ever recorded that was on the radio. With this being my first release on a US label, it felt like a fresh start. We pushed some boundaries in the recording process, and I’m really happy with the way it turned out.
How does your fifth album prepare you for future releases?
This album begins a new musical chapter for me. I wanted to bring in everything I’ve learned from making my previous four albums, but do something fresh that would show new fans who I am and where I’m headed.

Do you have a favorite track on the album?
I’d have to say the song “Use Me.” This one is special because it wasn’t actually supposed to make the record but found its way to leading it off. Joey and I went back and forth for a while on it. I’m glad it’s out in the world and the fans get to hear it.
What has your experience been like since signing onto Big Loud Records?
I’ve always been associated with Big Loud in some capacity, whether on the management side and/or working with Joey. Signing my first US record deal with them felt right, and it’s been great putting out an album with them.
What’s next for you?
I start touring in the US and Canada in April. Until then, we’ve got a few more videos and things planned. I’m excited to start playing all these new songs live.
