Carly Pearce shared a heartfelt moment with a 21-year-old fan named Jacob, who was battling stage 3 cancer, on March 22 at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Carly Pearce Meets 21-Year-Old Battling Cancer Named Jacob

The 34-year-old country superstar first met Jacob during her meet and greet before the show, where he gave her a heartfelt handwritten note. In the note, he shared that the songs from her latest album, hummingbird, had given him hope in his fight against cancer. However, he also revealed that his treatment hadn’t worked and admitted he didn’t think he’d make it to the concert. Thanks to his nurses, who believed he would, they surprised him with a ticket so he could attend.

“I met someone very special tonight in my meet and greet, who gave me a note, his name is Jacob,” Pearce told the crowd from the stage. “Jacob told me he was diagnosed last year with Stage 3 cancer. If I get this wrong, please tell me. He’s 21, and he said that Hummingbird, the album, helped him believe that he could overcome it, and he was in treatment, and he found out that the treatment didn’t work, and he did not know if he would make it to be at the show, but his nurses did, and they bought him a ticket so that he could come tonight.”

“And so, I’ve never done this before, I’m going to sit right here, and I’m going to sing this song, and you’re going to sit by me because every single person in here is going to pray for you tonight,” Pearce continued as she sat down on the edge of the stage.

A Touching Tribute: Pearce Sings “No Rain” for Jacob

Carly Pearce then sat beside the fan, wrapped her arm around him, and performed “No Rain,” a song she co-wrote with Jordan Reynolds, Lauren Hungate, and Emily Weisband, featured on her hummingbird: no rain, no flowers (deluxe) album. The crowd sparkled with their cell phone lights, making the touching moment even more special.

“No clouds, no lining, no dirt, no diamond/ No low, no high, no wrong, no right/ No break, no fixing, no lose, no winning/ May might bring showers, but no rain, no flowers/ My mom always says that storms never stay/ Don’t look to your left, this life ain’t a race/ If you never feel fear, you’ll never need faith, hm/ When I’m broken in two, when my sky ain’t blue,” Pearce sang to the crowd, who was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Another Heartfelt Moment: Fulfilling Evie’s Wish

Another emotional moment unfolded when Pearce noticed a sign in the crowd from a fan named Evie that read, “Please sing ‘Show Me Around’ for my Grandma.” Pearce then gave a touching performance of the song, which she co-wrote with Ben West and Emily Shackelton as a tribute to her late producer, Busbee.

“I’m just having a moment because I love my Grandma like Evie loves her grandma,” Pearce said. “So, this song is not in my set, but I saw your sign and I have to sing a little bit for your Grandma because I know that she has a long list of things she’s going to show you in Heaven just like my Grandma is.”

She went on to sing an a cappella version of “Show Me Around” directly to the young fan in the crowd. “I bet you’re up there right now makin’ plans and writin’ out/ All your favorite places that you just can’t wait to take us/ And we’ll get to spend forever talkin’ ’bout whatever/ When I get there, promise you’ll track me down/ And show Evie around,” Pearce sang, changing up the lyrics to include the fan’s name.

Pearce also treated the audience to performances of fan-favorite hits such as “Should’ve Known Better,” “29,” “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” “Hide The Wine,” “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” “What He Didn’t Do” and more during the show.
