Bryson Quick, a 17-year-old high school senior, delivered a countrified rendition of a Pink Floyd hit on American Idol. His impressive performance scored him a golden ticket to Hollywood and a special invitation to perform at the Grand Ole Opry alongside Chayce Beckham.
Quick, originally from Seymour, Tennessee, dedicated his performance to his younger sister, Kendyll, who has a rare disorder called Joubert Syndrome. “What motivates me mainly is my little sister, because she loves music and she loves to sing, but she’s got a very rare disorder called Joubert Syndrome, which just severely limits her motor skills and kind of alters her day-to-day life. But she still lives it all with a smile,” Quick shared of his little sister, Kendyll. “Having Kendyll be here means the world to me, and she’s always been my biggest supporter at every show and everything I’ve ever played. She’s always in the front row, smiling, singing along with me. So I’d love to get this ticket from my sister, Kendyll and my parents.”
Luke Bryan questioned Quick about what he does and if he gigs around in Tennessee. “I gig all around Knoxville playing tailgates, restaurants, breweries, everything I can at the age of 17,” Quick explained. “I’m going to throw y’all a little curveball and put my spin on a Pink Floyd song.”
Bryson Quick Auditions On Idol With Countrified Rendition Of Pink Floyd’s “Time”
Wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt beneath a brown jacket and brown cowboy boots, Bryson Quick then strummed his acoustic guitar and delivered a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Time” with a country twist. He went on to showcase his unique vocals, proving he’s more than deserving of a spot in the Top 3.
With his vocal abilities and striking looks, he’s poised to go far in the competition and could very well become the next American Idol star.
Earned Praise From Idol Judges
Bryson Quick’s impressive performance of “Time” by Pink Floyd earned an ovation from the three Idol judges: Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan.
“Whenever I hear somebody come in who wants to be a part of the country crowd, I always think about hearing their voice in between other voices on the radio. And I feel like yours stands out in a good way,” Underwood, an avid rock fan, gushed. “And I like the fact that you brought yourself into a Pink Floyd song that was a smart call, and you’re pretty darn cute. I mean, that’s not everything, but it helps.”
Richie continued, “You’ve got the storyteller kind of voice. At first, I thought, never heard this before. You don’t fit into the genre of that country voice. But then the uniqueness is the part that rings the bell.”
Luke Bryan compared Bryson Quick to Season 19 American Idol winner (2021) Chayce Beckham.
“It kind of reminds me of an old friend we had around here a few years ago, ole Chayce Beckham,” Bryan added. “You got a big, powerful voice and a good range and a good little vibrato under there. Got your own kind of little style. And so we’re excited to see where things go and what happens.”
Invited To Perform At Grand Ole Opry Alongside Chayce Beckham
Bryan then called Beckham on FaceTime to ask him if Idol contestant, Bryson Quick, could join him during his Grand Ole Opry performance, to which Beckham obliged and said “yeah, let’s do it.”
Much to his surprise upon exiting the audition room with a golden ticket, host Ryan Seacrest asked Quick, “What’s the most famous venue you’ve ever played?” Quick replied, “I mean, I played in Nashville once, but nothing that was really famous, so to speak. Nothing famous yet. This is the biggest.”
Seacrest then invited him to perform at the Grand Ole Opry with Beckham. The show then showcased Bryson Quick at the Opry backstage, preparing to join Chayce Beckham for a performance of his chart-topping hit, “23.”
“I’ve always wanted to come to the Opry to watch a show, but I’ve never been able to make it here in the first time I’m here is the play… incredible! When Chase walked in the room, I couldn’t believe it because I’ve heard him on the radio, and I’ve seen him on the show,” Quick recalled. “And then learning that I get to play a song with him tonight. That was just, it was incredible. Walking up to that circle, knowing what it symbolizes, it’s just something I’ve dreamed about for my entire life. When you stand in that circle, you’re the star. You’re what encapsulates the entirety of country music. Being able to step foot up there where other greats that I’ve listened to my entire life played just meant more than the world to me.”
