Brandi Carlile Tributes John Prine With “I Remember Everything” Performance At 2021 GRAMMYs

Brandi Carlile honored the late John Prine with a performance of the GRAMMY-winning track, “I Remember Everything,” at the 2021 GRAMMYs on Sunday, March 14.

“I’m honoring John Prine at the GRAMMYs and he is one of my great heroes, he’s certainly one of the greatest songwriters of all time. And there’s so many of us who just wouldn’t write songs and we wouldn’t know how if it wasn’t for John,” Carlile said ahead of her performance. “Having lost him this year to COVID, is especially heartbreaking but there’s something about this performance for me that’s really cathartic because it’s spring time and it’s been a year almost since we lost him and I just feel that there’s hope and redemption in the words of this song. So, I’m looking forward to be able to honor him in this way because I wanted to do it all year and couldn’t get out of the house.”

The singer gave an emotion-filled acoustic performance, while photos of the late singer were displayed on the screen behind her.

“We all thank you John, for everything,” Carlile concluded the performance.

Earlier this evening, Prine was posthumously awarded with two GRAMMYs for “I Remember Everything” including Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance.

The five-time GRAMMY award winner is up for 2 nods, including Best Country Song for “Crowded Table” and Best Song Written For Visual Media for “Carried Me With You” from Onward.

Last year, Brandi Carlile joined Tanya Tucker, playing piano while Tucker performed “Bring My Flowers Now.”

The 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards also featured performances from Bad Bunny, Miranda Lambert, Black Pumas, Cardi B, BTS, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, HAIM, Brittany Howard, Lil Baby, Mickey Guyton, Maren Morris, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift.

Hosted by Trevor Noah, “Music’s Biggest Night” aired on Sunday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS Television Network and also available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
