Bobby Bones is preparing to mark a major milestone in his life, with the radio personality and his wife, Caitlin Parker Estell, set to welcome their first child this year. During an appearance on Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe, Bones opened up about how he’s feeling as he prepares to become a father, explaining that as he was raised primarily by his grandmother and not his parents, he doesn’t have any expectations about how his own experience will go.

“I’m sure that it’ll be awesome and awful and challenging and amazing,” he said. “Really, I have no expectation other than this is going to be a really wild experience. I didn’t have parents, I don’t know what it’s like to be a parent [and] I don’t know what it’s like to have parents.”

While he explained that he doesn’t “know what this is going to be,” he feels “so happy” that Parker is the one he’ll be going on the journey with. “My wife is the funniest person I’ve ever met, and it’s so awesome,” Bones gushed. “And it also drives me crazy because I’m celebrated for being funny, and I come home, and she’s funnier than me.”

The Bobby Bones Show host, whose real name is Bobby Estell, joked that now that Parker is pregnant, his humor is making its way into hers. “Some of her humor now I feel like, and maybe I’m projecting, it’s getting a little dumber. And I say because she has some of me inside of her now, and it’s making her dumber because the baby’s half me.”

After Bristowe said she could likely guess what gender Bones’ baby will be, the 45-year-old radio personality shared that he and his wife know whether they’ll be welcoming a boy or a girl and when their baby is due, though the couple has decided not to share that information.

“It’s something that I’ve learned because my wife is not public at all,” Bones explained of the decision to keep more information private than he previously would have. “And that’s been something that I’ve started to value a little more because she values it. Because old me is like, ‘Here’s what’s up. Here’s how dilated, everything.’”

He added that because he values Parker, he has “also started to make a few things precious.” “Which really, to me, it shows even to her that I value it,” Bones said. Further opening up to Bristowe, Bones revealed that Parker was the first person he ever told “I love you.”

“My family, we didn’t say love. Nobody ever said it,” he recalled. “My wife is the first person in my whole life that I ever told I loved.” When Bristowe asked if Bones had ever thought about saying it to anyone else he dated, he replied, “No, I thought I was broken.”

He explained, “Nothing was ever real, and I never thought I would get married, never thought anything. I never said it to anybody.” Bones added that being able to say “I love you” to Parker helped him begin to express that sentiment to other people in his life.

“What happened was it kind of opened up a lot of… There’s some freedom in me now to tell people that I do love that I do love them now,” he said. “And it’s a lot of therapy. But I credit her as to being the foundational shaker of me that made me realize that I have it in me.”
