Blake Shelton and his girlfriend Gwen Stefani released their much-anticipated new duet “Happy Anywhere” on Friday (July 24), marking the couples fourth collaboration together.
Shelton said that the song is one of the “most fun” tracks that he has been apart of, Stefani even admitted that the song is one that just makes you smile.
“You know, ‘Happy Anywhere’ has got to be one of the most fun songs that I’ve ever had a chance to record and the actual recording process was a blast. Listening to it afterwards was a blast,” Shelton said. “I had a moment where Gwen told me, “You know, there’s something about this song that just makes you smile.” And it doesn’t hurt that it has Happy in the title.”
Shelton told PEOPLE that the song was written before their previous duet “Nobody But You” but that they wanted to wait to release it until the time was right.
“‘Nobody But You’ was a big song for us, but we actually recorded ‘Happy Anywhere’ before that. We were waiting for the right time to release it, and I knew that time was now,” he says. “We’re all still socially distancing, so there’s no better time to be happy anywhere with the person or people you love. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are — as long as you’re with them, you’re happy.”
The song was co-written by Ross Copperman, Josh Osborne and Matt Jenkins.
“Happy Anywhere” follows his latest single which is another duet with Stefani titled “Nobody But You.” Their previously releases duet “Nobody But You” quickly went No. 1, marking Stefani’s first No. 1 country single and Shelton’s 27th No. 1.
The couple will perform on NBC’s TODAY Summer 2020 Citi Music Series this morning (July 24) for the television debut of the song.
