Noah Thompson is setting the record straight about his rumored relationship with fellow American Idol season 20 finalist, HunterGirl.
In a recent interview (Aug. 11) with Taste of Country Nights, Thompson said he and HunterGirl are “best friends,” but that’s all.
“Me and Hunter, I mean we became a lot closer than the other, uh, you know, the other contestants toward the end just because we had our trailers side by side,” Thompson told the outlet. “That’s not something we picked, we just became close. We talked about how one person was feeling this way or I was feeling this way, whatever. She was just kind of there for me and I was there for her. We just became best friends,” he shared.
Thompson’s clarification about his relationship with HunterGirl follows rumors that the pair had started dating after he broke up with his girlfriend, Angel, with whom he shares his son, Walker.
And while rumors don’t normally bother Thompson, this one did.
“The only thing that bothers me is people are saying that me and Angel broke up and they’re blaming it on whoever,” he admitted. “Or they’re saying this or that and that’s insane. Hunter hasn’t done a single thing. Nothing like that’s happened.”
Thompson continued to say that HunterGirl and Angel are actually “good friends” and that “people just need to quit [making up rumors].”
Dating rumors aside, Thompson and HunterGirl just announced their plans to embark on a co-headlining tour together.
The tour kicks off on Oct. 27 in Columbus, Ohio, and concludes on Dec. 2 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Thompson said he was “literally living in [his] dream world” over the opportunity.
“[HunterGirl and I have] stayed friends, and now we get to get out there on the road together. One of my favorite things to do is get up on stage and sing. I am literally living in my dream world,” he gushed.
“It is going to be so much fun being on tour with one of my good friends, Noah Thompson. I am excited to be on the road with my band and have the chance to play new music that will be coming out soon,” HunterGirl expressed a similar sentiment.
Prior to announcing his tour with HunterGirl, Thompson released a country cover of Rihanna’s song, “Stay.” Thompson performed the song during his time on Idol and it quickly became a hit with fans, including judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
